Modern Vespa

Hello, new here and new owner of a 2008 400 MP3.
I bought the scooter a month ago and it needs a lot of work, previous owner hadn't done anything on it for 5 years, it's done 53k, I'm doing the 50k service on it now (myself).

I fixed the parking lamp today, it was the sensor on top of the handbrake that was bad, no big deal...
Now when the parking lamp lits up when pulling the handbrake I thought the throttle would behave like the seat sensor (which I also fixed), no possibility to rev the engine until released...
Well, it doesn't do so... My question is, is this normal?

Do you mean the amber one? Tilt lock? But I'm quite unsure that a parking brake has sensor. Neither that it is somehow related to the amber lamp in the middle of the dashboard.

I just had to take a picture of it since I spent 2h on making it work...

You are quite right, it doesn't seem to be a sensor on the handbrake at all...

In my 2007 MP3 250, the hand brake can be not released and the throttle works, but maybe in yours is a better approach as don't rev with the handbrake (for me make sense that works that way and avoid accelerating with the handbrake on), I don't do a test to try to rev with the handbrake on in my MP3 500 so don't know.

It is (not in the handlebar but on the proximity of the handbrake system), is the same/similar as the microswitches in the handlebar for the levers (check the parts manual). Is the way that the light in the front panel shows the handbrake is in the up position

I also changed the switch on one of the handlebars, they are not the same as the handbrake one, but as already said, similar...
I'm familiar on the parts, it's just the function I'm confused about...

The handbrake has nothing to do with the throttle. You are at liberty to ride off with the handbrake on as I have done a couple of times

Likewise. If you don't notice for a few miles (very easy) then you completely wear away the tiny thin parking brakepads. RRPITA.

I think it'd be a great mod to prevent riding off while the handbrake is on. I'm actually bloody annoyed I didn't think of it while I still had my Fuoco.

Disk lock cable is quite handy as a reminder, hooked on throttle and parking brake handle.

If it doesn't work automatically without 'forgetful user' interaction, it's not fulfilling the original purpose. Just like with a vehicle anti-theft kill-switch, it should arm automatically.

After having a functional parking lamp now I can see and agree that no other tool is needed for me. And on mine I can't drive away with the handbrake on, it really bites that disc when pulled.

Before I fixed the lamp or even knew it existed it was a bit frustrating, I pulled my feet up, hit the throttle and didn't move a mm. But the tilt function deactivated...
Must have looked funny seeing an old man on a bike with three wheels losing balance standing still at a parking lot...

Every new bike or scoot is a learning curve, good thing is you seem good with tools so will figure out quicker than most.
