So I got into our large variety bag of Halloween candy a bit early. It really wasn't my fault. We took the kiddo camping and the campground did a little trick or treat event. So I broke the seal with some of his past weekend's haul.

Now I'm trying to decide which of the variety bag candy types do I want to eat last. I think I want the KitKat flavor lingering, but then the Reese's peanut butter cup flavor calls... don't forget Twix.

I've gone round and round and have had these three candy types in sequence, still undecided. There are wrappers everywhere. I think I'm going to settle on the Reese's.

No the Twix.

Maybe the KitKat...

That's kinda the vicious cycle. Each year I swear I'm not going to go near the stuff. Same issue with Girl Scout cookies.. just one equals an entire sleeve.

My all-time fav is the 100 Grand bar, but it's rarely available. Black liquorice is deelish though.

I find it hard to eat the smaller Reese's after trying the BIG ones. So much better. The Baby Ruth is delicious and to a point, Butterfinger. I go mad after the Butterfingers get all caked up around my teeth and gums! It's toothbrush time after that to kill the pain. 🤣 Love me a Heath bar too.

There was one camper doling out 100 Grand bars. My wife had that in her custody before it even had a chance to hit my son's candy bag.

Baby Ruth and Butterfingers used to be a staple Halloween candy. Now they are almost as rare as 100 Grands. My guilty pleasure is Almond Joys. Divisive, I know.

I live in a pretty good sized subdivision, so every year we plan for at least 85-100 kids.

We head to Costco and get 3-4 boxes of 20 count full sized bars and a couple of bags of fun size as a back-up.

I prefer Reese cups myself, but I would never turn down a 100 grand bar.

Side note - try making S'Mores with a Reese cup instead of a Hershey bar...you'll thank me later.

PNB cups are a particular weakness, but peanut M&Ms are right up there, too. Especially the Halloween sized tiny bags. How bad could they be, at that size? And don't get me started on the pectin based candy group-skittles, gummies, starburst, and so forth...

I almost never see Zero or Zagnut bars anymore, unless I go to Cracker Barrel.

When we moved in 20+ years ago we expected a bunch for Halloween, but just the neighbor kids showed up. Now that they are grown no one comes down the dark, dead end street to us. We don't care, more for us!

We also live in the "country", in the woods, at the end of a 700 foot long driveway. For years we put $100 bills in the Trick or Treat bowl. Never gave away a single one. Now we don't even bother.

My favorite time of the year. My birthday is Oct 30th and the next day is Halloween.

My wife was impressed, as a child while trick or treating, that a house in the neighborhood gave out large candy bars. So, she has continued that tradition and our house is popular during Halloween (some kids come back twice - those rascals).

MY BIG MISTAKE: I would be the one passing out candy at the door and dressed up in a really scary outfit. The little kids would scream and run like hell. One even dropped his bag of candy. Of course, the parents were on the sidewalk accompanying their young trick or treaters. I apologized to the parents big time. To quote my wife, "another dumb idea you came up with".
I did not know who was at the door. To maximize the scare, I would jump from hiding inside to the open door. All done doing that. You can't even wear a mask answering the door with little kids.

I guess the thought evolved from my youth trick or treating. The older kids would hide along the route and jump out and scare you. Back then we had to carry large shopping bags to carry all the loot - we covered blocks.

Great memories.

Nothing going on by us. In our rural township it was apparently agreed to skip trick or treating altogether, I think offering a town hall party instead. Not sure how that started, but decades ago a young trick or treater was abducted and murdered from the nearby city which had a long lasting effect.

When I was in college we didn't get hit up by trick or treaters much, so when I moved to the real world I was shocked to hear my apartment doorbell ringing until I realized what was up...and of course I hadn't bought candy. So I dimmed the lights and watched TV quietly for the night. Scrooge city. Laughing emoticon

Actually, we live in the midst of ~6 million people, just down a long dead-end street.

My wife and I bought mad candy for Halloween. We're hoping for a good turn out this year. Last year we had a good turn out and almost ran out of candy! If we don't get many kids I don't know what to do with the leftover candy. Half of my department at work is diabetic so we all agreed to only bringing in healthy snacks, and no candy. Before this diabetic nonsense I always brought in the extra candy to work since I rarely eat the stuff. No, I'm not on the diabetic list.

I really miss the secretary at my work, Marna. She would bring her granddaughter's Halloween candy to work with her and my coworkers and I would annihilate it! She retired and moved out of state. 😒

Coworkers that bring candy to work are the best!

To scoop up a slurp of pho! Like in the olden days when getting a drink of water from the pale. I guess just holding up the bucket of pho and chugging a slurp works but could get messy. 😁

Haven't you ever heard of bobbing for pho before? Bobbing for pho is where the basis for the idea of bobbing for apples came from. If you can not afford a decent pho you substitute apples. (Or sometimes live crabs.)
