It's not a Vespa, is this allowed here?

Picked up this White LUI earlier this summer. I always thought they looked cool. It is actually a lot of fun to ride and it is super light. Bonus, everything on the engine is easy to access and there is all sorts of room for exhausts.

I originally wanted to do a CP135 build, but the costs involved are more than I can justify after some other recent projects.

I decided on a CP105, claims have been made to be capable of 10hp and 60mph, we'll see.
So this winter I am going to:
-thoroughly clean and polish the bike
-new tires
-CP105 cylinder
-VM24
-Sole Power Pipe
-New cables
-budget clutch upgrade
-front dampers

That shouldn't take all winter, but I always have other things going on. As long as it is ready by the Spring I will be happy.
Probably an ignition upgrade and possibly a 4 speed upgrade at some point, but I am going to see how this rides first.

Wow, never heard of that one! Looks like Lammy front suspension with mini ape hangers. Looks fun.

Lui's are bad ass, way cooler than starstreams or centos. Oddball bike over here but far out styling.

Yes please, keep your Lammy thread going! You can really see Bertone's handiwork on the design of the Lui. I'm tempted to also start up my own wintertime lammy S3 build as well. It's nice to have everything documented so that you can go back and see what all you have done.

Agree, I have only began posting about builds recently. Each time it has turned out to be extremely useful for me later on, either I forget a detail about what gearing I used or some other useful information that I am able to look back at.

The design work is pretty fantastic.

I ended up cutting the mounting brackets from the stock exhaust and welded those on. Trying to decide whether to keep the pipe unpainted and oiled, or send it off to be ceramic coated. I sort of dig the raw metal look for this bike.

Also installed new rims and tires.

I am keeping the 3 speed for now, but making some gearing changes.
Fortunately you can just tip the LUI on it's side, remove the clutch/transmission cover and you have full access to everything.
Installed an RLC 10-15-19 gear cluster that is supposed to remedy the short 1st and 3rd. Also switched from a 11t to a 15t front drive sprocket.

I may switch to a 4 speed at some point, but this fits the budget right now.

Lui has been my first love, I have 2 of them and in one I'm building a 140cc with 125 cylinder, reed valve and Lui 75 crankcase.
Glad to follow your thread

Awesome! Is that the GT140 cylinder? You should share a picture of both bikes.

They are fun little bikes. I really love small frame Vespa too, but having this kind of access to an engine while it is in the bike has been a real treat.

Someone painted my bars white along with the rest of the bike.
Trying to decide whether to paint these the original grey/silver or strip down to bare aluminum.

bare alum would look rad all polished up, but pain to do and pain to maintain. Clear coat would help. Grey-Silver would be nice too

Beautiful Lammy, I love the Lui's, unfortunately they were never registered in the Netherlands so very difficult to get a license plate on them here...

keep the bars alu, matches with the bare metal of the exhaust.

I have to search for some photo of the first, that I restored when I was 16 (24 years ago ) and it is completely original. I bought mine because in my family my uncle had it, when I was younger I used it a few times and it was more times that I pushed him than it carried me Its ignition system was always not working and I felt in love with it

15 years ago I take from a barn one in bad conditions, and I will fit the 140cc engine here, as a rat style sleeper. I've been putting it aside all this time, when I get it back I'll be sure to take some photos. Also the engine project started more than 10 years ago and for force majeure causes it is in hold.
In that barn there was another incomplete one, the frame you can see in the exhaust picture

No, the crankshaft and the cylinder are from J125 and the piston is from Kawasaki Mach 3.
Like an old school tuning project for some aspects

As far as I can tell the bike was originally orange and the bars were a grey/silver color, someone sprayed them all white. But all sorts of parts could have been swapped out at one point or another.

That is a good source of information. Thank you

I like the idea of using the tach/speedo. I am a little weary not knowing how well the hold up and how well they would work without a DC power supply. Seems like I have been seeing mixed reviews on their speedos.
If not, I will use a trail tech style tach/temp gauge and phone gps while getting things tuned in.

What ignition system will you use?
the original was never good due to a weak flywheel magnet

I am going to get it running with points and then switch to something with variable timing when I have some extra cash. My points system was working in tip top shape though. Before I tore things apart for this build it was starting with a lazy half kick every time.

Brushed on Citristrip, put them in a trash bag and waited about an hour, the layer of white came off. The original silver/gray was worn through in some places, so I brushed on some more Citristrip, bagged it, and came bag to it in the morning. The rest of the paint wiped off. Polished things up a bit, cleaned with Prepall, and then some clear coat to keep it from oxidizing.

4-speed LUI parts arrived this afternoon. I am hoping to have time this weekend to swap things out. Been riding the LUI around a bit more, it's fun once it's moving. The three speed makes it tricky to have good top speed and stay in the 6k rpm range that the pipe hits, especially 2-3rd gear. Probably wouldn't matter much if I was running a box pipe.
