Ok, just keep in mind that 12V power needs to go to the idiot light, the idiot light needs to be connected to the fuel tap, and the other fuel tap wire needs to go to earth, not the other way round. It's a pretty reliable and fool proof system once it's hooked up.

Here's what it looks like on my 12V AC Lambretta:

I really like that idea. I used to just mess around with my vespas, but nowadays I'm much more confident in the electrics and whatnot. I ordered the tap yesterday.

Yeah, I put this conversion up there with autolube, as a user-friendly time-saving piece of technology. Having to check the tank nervously every time you want to go for a ride, never being sure of exactly how far whatever seems to be left through that tiny hole and the deceptive reflection of the gas inside will allow you to go, is a thing of the past.

Just let the bike tell you when it's thirsty, and be confident that even when going full speed on the highway out in the sticks, if the light turns on just as you pass a gas station, its pessimistic configuration will allow you to get to the next gas station without having to slow down to save gas.

Or get yourself a whopping huge tank like I did and never worry again. Razz emoticon

Seriously, if you're doing real distance riding, that thing is a gift from heaven.

I even used it to refuel a clubmate's P200 after he ran out in the middle of nowhere. We'd both fueled up at the same time, and that thing got us both to the next gas station on a SERIOUS Murphy's Law kind of ride (crashes, riding in rain, sleet, snow, and dark, etc.).

Probably hard to fit on a Bajaj or a PX, which is what OP has. If that remark was for me, I have a 10L tank that takes the space of the battery but spares the toolbox. Best of both wotlds imo

Motovespa Supers had one like this but good luck finding any in stock anywhere.

https://www.vespajets.com/product/motovespa-125-super-rear-spare-wheel-carrier-small-frame-spare-wheel-lamp-holder/

I have one but it's not for sale but it has inspired me to look in to the possibility of doing something similar with a PK spare wheel carrier.

Good idea! Since seeing these on smallframes in Spain a few decades ago, I've been wanting to find/make something similar for my DS. Only big issue: the holes. Unless provisions are made for the thing to bolt to the tank/seat holes on top, and the license plate holes on the bottom.

If you could figure out how to 3d print it and maybe figure out how to reinforce the mounting with some metal, you would be the hero of the day.

If only someone had an old DR wheel going spare it would make the whole exercise far simpler.

Looking at options for 10" wheel trims but unsure if I can turn up anything sturdy enough. I know they used to do Moon discs in 10" but that would be ridiculously expensive.

Okay, found the bracket I have and it won't work or at least not without modifying. All UK market PKs I have seen use the elestart bracket which needs to be completely removed to access the spare wheel. There is a more basic bracket that could work by the looks of it but I don't have one of those and I'm not buying one to try.

Why are these bar end indicators specifically 6v? Since the motor is 12v what's the issue?

Also, if I wanted to pull new wires, is there even a harness that will work?

You just need to swap the bulbs for 12V to fix the voltage.

For the wiring, they make it a little confusing unless you don't need the diagram (image #5 on the SIP product page), but you will need to cut, strip, and ideally tin the positive wires from each blinker, then connect those into the switch. You'll need a flasher unit, which you should be able to fit in the headset, then just splice a wire from your pilot light (easiest place to get always-on + in the headset) to the flasher, then connect the power out from the flasher to the switch.

It's really easy since you don't have rear signals which would require running a pair of wires. The hardest part is psyching yourself up to drill the headset for the switch.

Alternately, you can modify the headset switch to control the blinkers using the three position off/pilot/headlight switch, but that's not in the "scooter electrics for beginners" book.

The bajaj already has a switch, but it's wired into it's own wonky blinker system. I'm thinking of it becomes too much of a pain I could just do bar end indicators. German style I guess.

Then you can just wire the bar ends into that, but the turn signal circuit is pretty dead simple. The issue is probably the blinker unit if it's wonky. Just replace it.

Next proposal: with electronic conversion, why not just mount the ducati style CDI under the battery side cowl next to the trailtech rectifier?

I thought you had a vape.

No reason you can't, but it'd be a lot simpler to put it on the back of the motor like other large frames.

I don't have an extra bracket. With shipping the bracket and hardware is over $40! Under the cowl it's not exposed to the elements.

Just get some sheet metal and fabricate one. Costs almost nothing.

Regardless, you do you so long as you're happy either will work.

The replacement autolube tank comes with a fuel gauge. Is there anything interesting I can do with the unused gauge? I wonder how difficult it would be to have it light up the headlight indicator once it hits a certain level? I'll never ride it enough to run out of gas probably but I hate to see things go to waste. I could not find a blanking plate.

Is it a potentiometer or a float switch? If it's a float switch, you just need to wire it up and you have a low fuel light.

If you really want a low fuel light, you can get the SIP Fast Flow with a float switch built in.

Other than that, you need a fuel gauge and it needs to match the resistance rate of the sender, which is A Lot for something that probably won't ever work very well, anyway.

True dat. It can be worked around by adding diodes and resistors, but count on the resistance rates not matching from the get go, even within the same brand. An issue that won't occur with an on/off setup such as a reserve light.

That's a bummer, but in my experience those LML tanks are made of cheese. Easy to dent but easy to fix too. Too bad it's not made like your Bajaj, those are made from decommissioned battleships.

Anybody have experience with this indian brand 5 wire stator? It was 50 bucks for budget build. I'm not even sure I'll use it. I have old p125x stator but I was originally going to do dc conversion. Now I'm thinking of it being unessary for the bajaj.

3 kids and now on my 2nd masters (MLIS) because it's free... not a lot of time to fiddle around with the scooters. I have pulled new wire harness for the P200. I was thinking with the bajaj all torn part I should pull a new wiring for it as well. I have a p125x I want to put into it, but hopefully upgrade to electronic ignition. What wiring harness would I use? It has turn signals and working front brake switch I would like to keep if possible. USA import rally wiring loom?
