I just ordered new front suspension for my 2008 and I'm no to happy with the rear suspension either so I thought I'll swap that too... With... What?
Piaggio wants 314 euro per side I saw somewhere... Also found Chinese (crap) for 80 euro in total for both sides...

Has anyone here changed their rear suspension and can give a recommendation on a fairly priced good solution?

From what I read the bitubo with external reservoir is the top, but is not available any more but I remember read in the forum that someone install the Malossi rear and are very happy. Maybe a good option

YSS is actually a decent brand, they even make high end stuff in their factory in Thailand, I put a set on a old harley a few years back, and they where fine, price was only a few hundred euros, not cheapest but not cheap chinese price, so I would say yes for the price, however all depends on weight you will be carrying, if heavy go up in price just my opinion.

Agree, I use the YSS in my monkey and works fine, but can't speak about more weight or long term use and abuse

Are you sure about the length? In the link you provide says 405 mm but (I can be wrong) the MP3 400/500 use 410 mm

5mm doesn't matter at all...
Under "beschribung" on that page my 2008 year isn't listed either... But I have an M64200 as all other listed there.

Can, or can not. I'm a little purist in some pieces, but to be honest the most important part is the travel that have the original 410mm and the YSS 405. Do you compare it?

Got them today, seems quality right through! Installing them tomorrow, I'll be back... Laughing emoticon

No tool was included for the hardness but then I realised that I could change the 5 different stiffness twisting by hand since I don't change the spring compression but the gas...

I've used YSS on a couple of other bikes.

Price is awesome, but longevity is not. Got a couple of years out of each before the YSS was dead.

Also, the stock SHOWA factory shocks are infintely rebuildable while the YSS units were not.

Your mileage may vary

Bottom line: you get what you pay for.

New shocks work great, what a difference in comfort!
Only complaint, the lower hole is M12 while the MP3 has M10 up and down. Also the width of the lower fitting is about 5mm narrower than the original. Running it like this for now but will shim it soon.

As said, you get what you pay for...

I doubt you got shocks made for the MP3.

If the hardware is off, then you have to verify you were sent the correct gear

I checked with three stores before buying, they were all selling these as MP3 compatible. I'm sure these aren't made for the MP3 specifically, they are rather generic fitting...

They do fit, they did a lot for comfort and drivability and they were fairly priced.

Make with a lathe some bushings of 10mm internal and 12mm external of the width of the shock absorber and that's it. Many shock absorbers come with them precisely to be compatible with various motorcycles.

If you got generic shocks that are not made or matched for your bike then the handling will suffer.

Underdamped (while comfortable) is just as bad as overdamped

It's all about compression, tension, and rebound
