Hi everyone!

I bought an used vespa LX50 4T (my very first scooter), recently i had a problem with the vespa suddenly started to go very slow no matter how much i push the throttle. at the beginning it was just for few hundred meters and then it was going back to normal, now it never goes away... actually in order to go back home today I had to play quite a lot with the accelerator to make the vespa move (since it appears to go slightly faster with this trick).

Once i have arrived home i tried to regulate the minimum screw. so I turned it on, I waited a couple of minutes to be warm and then once it reached the temperature the vespa turn off.

I notice some air coming from the secondary air bellows, I'm not sure it's connected to that though..

can anyone help me please? Facepalm emoticon

Congratulations on the new scoot. Have you cleaned the carb? Is the gas cap on too tight? That will cause it to cut off or slow down. Have you looked at the CVT? Maybe needs a good cleaning, new belt, new rollers, and clutch service.

The LX 50's are not speed demons when running perfectly.

Thanks!! I tried to clean the carb in the past and i stopped because one screw was not moving and i didn't wanted to break it...the gas cap in my opinion was quite low.. the CVT for sure needs some maintenance, the belt and rollers need to be replaced together with the transmission oil...

tomorrow I will bring it to the closest mechanic and i'll see what he tells me! wish me good luck!

Vespa update: I brought it to the mechanic and to him it didn't do the defect, so he told me the vespa was "perfect"...

when I got home I tried to use the Vespa with the tap of the fuel open (to check if maybe the tank valve was stuck) and nothing changed, then I tried to take the pipe of the fuel off in order to see if it had a good flow, and even with the vespa off it was quite strong, so it's also not the fuel tap.

I'm really wondering what the problem is...

PS. I have ordered new transmission belt and rollers.

I have an 2008 LX50 and it was very sluggish, and would stall after about 15minutes of driving. The solution was to replace the CDI.

Hi all,

first of all thanks a lot for all your replies

i had a look online and i found the attached guide.

unfortunately i'm no expert on cleaning the carburator, so i think i will start by changing the air filter and using a fuel additive to try clean the valves and the carburator.

i will keep you posted.

Kind regards,
Jacopo
