Hi. Rebuilding my first VBB engine, and installing an electronic ignition stator. So the stator wires are supposed lead up thru the tube and into the junction box, yes?

So, er . . . what is that other hole for, just below it on the case? What is supposed to go there? Right now, I have no idea . . .

Many thanks,

Some old motors had the hi tension coil mounted on the stator and the spark plug lead comes out of a hole like that. I see the motor does have the bosses & holes to mount an external coil though ... What's the original stator look like?

Hmmm. Having now gone thru all my bins, I realize I may have committed the cardinal sin of tossing the old stator before installing the new electronic ignition system. So, uh, I probably can't find out if the high-tension wire once went thru there.

So . . . as I appear to have installed the new stator et al correctly, I'm just going to block that second hole with a rubber plug and proceed. I'm hopeful. I seem to have the requisite number of parts and wires in the right places. Onward, ever onward, with hope. Thanks!

you should still put the HT wire grommet there to keep out debris, and well, those attention to details movements.

Yep, that's exactly what I've done before to keep it clean inside, but SHAME ON YOU for casually just tossing potentially valuable, perhaps salvageable, future rare authentic original vintage parts! Livid emoticon

Yes, totally. In penance, I have been whipping myself with the old, frayed cables and wiring loom.

But the stator may still be in a box somewhere. Would have been uncharacteristic of me to toss it. May yet surface during the next Big Cleaning.
