I love this video, as it captures really well what I try to do with my rally/riding and non-technical videos. I'm just not very good at it.

How do you decide what/when to film? Do you just basically act like a documentary maker and capture hours of footage, or do you have a sense of what's going to be good before it happens?

In particular, the non-riding stuff. That's where I always come up short.

Umm I try to film the same things each day. Sort of like bullets of the day. Every wake up. Every ending of the day (fire, dinner, whatever). It's much easier said than done. I miss a lot of stuff. It's also easier having a decent phone. Like the non riding footage is filmed on my phone. GoPro all riding. You also have to go into a trip/event fully committed to making a video. Not just "filming some stuff". Once you make the initial decision to "make a video" you'll realize how more often you film. And yeah, filming a ton and cutting it up later helps capture more and miss less stuff.

That sort've validates my own thinking, now I need to actually remember to do it .

I tend to just be "in the moment" when I'm at a rally or other event and just forget to film. Getting into the habit of having a camera running in some sort of "film & forget" mode would probably help me out a lot.

I have an Insta360 I use as a helmet cam when riding, which is great for missing nothing. I also film most of the non-riding stuff with my phone.

Sounds like I just need to get more diligent about making sure I'm filming, but the idea of making sure to have the "bullet list" in my head and getting into the habit of capturing some of each is a great idea.

With the exception of following Itchy Boots on YT, I won't sit long enough for most scoot videos. But this was an exception. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the beginning to the end, JohnDon. Good man.

This means a lot! For as much YouTube content I religiously consume, I know how boring a lot of videos can be, even if it's content I want to see. Glad you watched and enjoyed!

I only took a quick look at your video, but I will be watching the rest of it when I get the chance. You seem like you are old enough to have listened to The Smiths back in the day. Thanks for giving me something new to associate with them. It's one of a handful of bands that I deliberately don't listen to anymore.

I live between VT and New York State in the Champlain Valley. Not your neck of the woods, but if you are ever heading to the Greens, Whites or 'dacks give me a shout. I camp quite a bit with my bus, but your scooter camping trips are exactly the use I envisioned for my scooters, but haven't had the chance to try.

I appreciate that! I'm probably too young to qualify for "back in the day", I'm only 35. I will def be trying to make it up your way this summer. You should come to the track races we do in Syracuse! And this "I know it's over" camping trip will become an annual thing, I'll be organizing another one next year, you should join us!
