hi everyone, so i know the 180ss originally comes with 3 cork plates and 2 steel plates. Curious to know if there are any pros/cons to using kits that have the 4 cork and 3 metal plates? wouldn't having more plates in the basket take up more room, making it harder for plates to separate when clutch lever is pulled in? is it best to stick to 3 cork/2 metal original setup?
thanks

Normal is 3 & 2. If engine's stock, they're more than enough. More plates kit use thinner metal and cork plates…

Safis, thanks for the reply. If the plates (on 7 disk set) are thinner, in theory...would it come come out to the same size (stacked) compared to the 5 disk (standard) set? Or do these 7 disc sets require special (taller) baskets?
Are there any benefits to these bigger sets (if stock)? Any issues?
Thanks

yes they work out to about the same total thickness, but the thin edges of the plates wear out faster and also cause more wear on the basket.

Oops...ok thanks. So in theory, it should work oksy on s standard (non-modded bike? I too read beforehand that the thinner plates do wear out quicker than the stock ones but don't damage the basket?
I also read situations where they might cause clutch to "snag), when shifting into gear?

I would change the whole clutch to this type.

These cosa clutches work better and are nicer to ride. For your stock scooter, this will be the end of any clutch issues.

I'm pretty sure that clutch will not work with the stock crank shaft on an SS180. SS180s have tapered clutch mounts.

I believe the "180" they list is for the Rally and that has a square non-tapered crank clutch mount.

The stock clutch will work but it needs to be in top shape. The needle bearings and the the basket need to be smooth and tight. Plates and corks should be flat and nice. Replace them all if there is any wear and make sure your clutch cable is smooth and adjusted properly too.

Endofthe road... yes the clutch housing on the 180 is particular (flanging). I am in the midst of inspecting my clutch before putting it in.
Thanks
