This thread will probably blow up and I'll never see it again, but it's Saturday night and all I hear is crickets

Edit: this was a question between Heretic VS Conclave who wins?
I had basically watched them back to back.
I guess we can morph it into a movie recommendations list.

Conclave is quite good. The ending is spectacular. I haven't seen Heretic yet.

Since I won't spoil anything, I will caution anyone that the demographic for each is worlds apart, I probably should have guessed that. But I hadn't seen a "Horror" movie since the Omen 1976, in a drive in with my two older nieces who also smoked a stinky cigarette with a minor.

Damien was a creepy kid! The Exorcist 4 years later was a defining picture. I saw an interview with Tarantino talking about how The Exorcist really shaped his view of what a movie could be. Speaking of horror movies and Tarantino, Reservoir Dogs is basically The Thing in a different setting. No one knows who the enemy is, but they do know it is amongst them. Cool ending scene with two amazing actors.........

Umm, I just went to that Tarantino interview and realized I'd seen many more horror flicks than I remembered. Unrelated PBS of the 70's was next level

I wasn't able to watch either, cause kids, but Christmas Eve in miller point , and "elevation", was were horrendously bad. They're pushing for Wicked really hard, and based on the casting of Ariana grande alone, I'm not going to watch. It's going to be a really bad movie season seeing what's out right now.

I guess we can turn this into a movie thread, new title incoming.

I watched the trailer just now, the music haunted me for some reason, alas it's not showing in my area any longer. Thanks maybe next time.

I have heard it said that Slingblade is considered by some the best movie ever made.

When have you ever seen a better suited actor for a role? True story, beautiful and horrific ending all at the same time. The GOAT.

Spirit1993, I love cult films, you do a wonderful review. Hired on the spot! ROFL emoticon
I have heard of Krull, and dnd Liam is awesom.
There was a little movie renting business by Mt Tabor in Portland that your review reminded me of. Every genre had its own nook. Some I gobbled up, some I never entered. It was always a treat.
Looking forward to your next installment.

Skids, yes I remember that title, I'll have to watch a trailer to recall it. Thanks

Another favorite of mine is 28 Days Later.

It could happen, they could be testing and the virus could get out...rage.

Tons of great scenes in that movie. I love the priest waving his arms around as he approaches Jim...

The best one is early when Jim is just starting to realize he needs to run for his life and the other two non infected's save him, get him to run with them to a safe spot.

As soon as they get to the safe spot and get the cage down the one non infected tells a joke. Just right off the bat out of nowhere this guy is cracking jokes after poor Jim has just come to realize only a few short minutes ago infectious zombies are running amuck.

Of course neither Jim or the other non infected think it's funny and the joke teller immediately pulls a hack comedian move by insulting the audience...of two...that just got done running for their life again...

I still remember the joke but I always switch the giraffe for a zebra because how the hell does a giraffe get into a bar anyway?

Also a great movie! I think Shawshank Redemption and Fight Club should also be mentioned.

Everyone already knows about those movies though, I do have a recommendation for a little known movie that I thought was really good.

The Third Wheel. There are a lot of things that make a movie good but the story I think is key. A lot of other things can be bad but still entertaining with a good story and vice versa, good actors and cinematography and a bad story is probably not very entertaining.

The best story I have ever seen in a rom/com the Third Wheel was written by the guy playing the Third Wheel…and I think he only made the one movie? It also has a great joke in the movie.

A guy goes into a bar with a zebra and orders a couple drinks.

He and the zebra both down the drinks and the guy orders a couple more.

This continues until the zebra falls over passed out.

The guy pushes himself away from the bar and proceeds to walk to the door.

The bartender yells at him " Oy, you're not gonna leave that lying there are you ?"

The guy turns around and says " that's not a lion that's a zebra!"

I like it, totally replaced the other line from a John Wick movie that's been running through my head lately,
"That's a nice Jacket" umph

Back to the couple wandering in post apocalyptic world, I saw one recently that the woman just wanted a Pizza.
I appreciate CAMp in a movie, I had a huge reply to your post that night that got lost to a dead battery, so I trimmed it to the basics of 13 monkeys when I could then passed out.
Camp reminds people to not take tragedy too seriously, so you have the ability to survive it, and maybe help others. Humans have a tendency to shine when times are the worst.

Hard to be a god is a Russian film you can watch on youtube if you cant find it elsewhere. The story is a crew of astronauts lands on a planet that is like Europe in medieval times. A follow up mission finds that most of the orignal guys are dead, but one guy likes it there and has become a king or something. At least thats what I think happened. One thing that sets this movie apart is that it's the most disgusting movie you're probably ever going to see. It lasts for eternity and every frame has something gross and deeply offensive in it. Words fail. Add to that the fact the story makes no sense and the dialog is just lunatic ravings and you have 3 hours you'll never get back. I tapped out after 30 minutes or so-

I won't cross post this to weird shit you saw, but here it is.
We're heading to Europa a moon of Jupiter, two space agencies in about 6 years will collaborate to explore the situation in detail. I could post some videos that link this whole post together, but will wait to see if any fish bite this bait. I'll just leave this here, we have had the technology to see places we've never seen before for long enough to warrant a real mission to said moon.
My only questions are this, are we prepared to see all of the science laws knocked down by a civilization that spawned in a totally different environment?
Thermodynamics is based on closed systems,
I state with confidence that there is no such thing, closed systems bah!
Anyway a teaser;

I recently took a vacation which included a 5-hour flight. To kill the boredom, I try and find movies to put on my iPad and came across a new movie called The Substance. It's a fictional horror comedy movie, but not in the traditional sense.

It stars a number of once A-list actors and up-and-comers- Demi Moore, Dennis Quaid and Margaret Qualley. It's a fictional movie about an aging superstar who's looking for an edge to stay youthful and on top. She comes across an injectable drug that will create a "better version" of herself. She literally creates another version by giving birth to another person- now there's two of her- the original older one and a youthful one. Only one can be alive at a time and competition for time becomes an issue. Things go array, as each eventually fester a loathing for each other. The ending is super-climactic and gory!!

I really had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it got great reviews online, so I thought I would give it a shot. It's pretty riveting and very entertaining!

If you want any movie reviews (that are good), I have ideas.
Everything Everywhere All At Once - Wow! what a movie!
The Outfit - It takes a while, but it's good watching all the way through.
Hellboy, the first. Ron Perlman is the perfect Hellboy.
District 9 - Great sci-fi on apartheid
Galaxy Quest - If you dislike Tim Allen, watch it anyway. Fun sci-fi, with Veronica Mars' dad in it.
Renfield - Nick Cage, as Dracula, need I say more?
What We do in the Shadows - Speaking of Vamps, this one's a hoot.
Chappie - Critics weren't fond of it, but it's got Wolverene and some South African rappers too.
And last, Colossal - Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and monsters too.
P.S. O Brother Where Art Thou - Odysseus in the deep south.

I hope you like them.

I thought of some more:
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Ghosts
The Beaver with Mel Gibson
Swiss Army Man with Harry Potter
Speaking of Daniel Radcliff, Weird, the Weird Al documantary
Being John Malkovich
The Lobster
Paper Tigers, with no one you've ever heard of
And finally, Cowboys and Aliens, with both Indiana Jones AND Bond.

If you are still interested, I can list some more. And if you're not? I'll list them anyway.

Any movie from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Especially:
Paul
The World's End
Shaun of the Dead
Also:
Baby Driver
Dead Man (95) a good Johnny Depp movie
Serenity and the single season of Firefly - Nathan Fillion before he got chubby
I, Frankenstein another movie the critics didn't like but I do
Snatch Brad Pitt at his weirdest
Ted and Ted 2
The Voices
And lastly, Warm Bodies
That's it. No more from me.

Some great movies?
Brothers Bloom. Ruffalo and Brody play brothers that run a last con together. I've seen people get into a heated argument on how to understand the ending.
The Jacket. Also has Adrien Brody, this time as sane man experienced on in a mental institution. He also has to figure out how he died.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Couple of conmen compete on who can get money from a heiress. The loser leaves town.
Man's favourite sport. Rock Hudson is the best salesman of sport-fishing equipment and has published numerous bestselleres on fishing. His dirty secret is that he has never actually caught a fish himself. So when a couple of pretty women force him to take part in a fishing tournament his best option is to read his own books.

Old one, but heard good stuff about Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton so watched it over the weekend. Good story, kind of a Forrest Gump vibe with a mentally disabled main character, but more drama. Kind of surprising how much Thornton was able to portray the character. You'd have to look three times to identify him in the movie.
