hi

Recently i replaced the original variator of my Vespa GTV 250 with a Malossi Multivar 2000 variator (5111885)

In the same operation I replaced the cluth with a original Piaggio , the original Piaggio belt.

The Malossi Multivar 2000 kit comes with 16 and 14 gram rollers and White spring.
After instalo rollers, spring and belt i tried with 16 grams rollers but the scooter had no acceleration from zero and no maximum speed. Its si slowly!!

On the second attempt I tried the 14 grams rollers, and the scooter has more output and acceleration, more speed than with the 16 grams, but it doesn't convince me.

Should I try other weights?

12? 13 grams?

the rollers malossi kit are 20 x 17

Thanks for all

Back in March 2008 Scootering magazine published a comparison report on variators for the GTS250.They found the optimum roller weight for the Malossi was 12.5-13 grams, 13 grams being slightly better for high speeds. They also had the torque spring fitted that came with the variator.

thanks for the answers!

I bought 6 malosi rollers in 12.5 grams at the Malossi store and I will test the results Next week!

Can I mix 3 rollers of 12,5 grams and 3 of 14 grams? that result would give 13.25 grams
I will keep you informed of the progress
Thanks

You can mix them, just be sure to alternate their placement in the variator.

No. Over time, that can separate the brass bushing from the aluminum variator. Honda tried to engineer around this issue in the Foresight/Reflex, and came up with a variator that had ramps of different length, so the pressure would be even. Never used it again.
