No so surprising but always happens and i just find it interesting ...

Bike was clean in the morning then 120km sealed, 100km gravel, 330km sealed. All bone dry.

Rear always has that thick layer of dust and front is always almost spotless.

The front kicks up the dust and dirt - the rear tyre catches it! That's what happens with nails, and why it's nearly always the rear tyre that gets the puncture.

Yeah, it's just the 330km sealed high speed return trip doesn't blow any off again

Might I suggest installing one of these? You can use the mount holes from your front fender reflectors and push it in front of you.

This was waaaaay back in May 2023. Only hit the trails once or twice since then.

Palomar Mountain. That shot is only about 6Kft, and it's less-so clouds as it is a low marine layer.. meaning it was all thick gray skies at the casa.

The fun route up, Nate Harrison Grade was not Vespa friendly that morning. You'd love it.

The highest sealed road in Australia is 1841m / 6040ft at the carpark to the highest mountain of Mt Kosciusko at only 2228m / 7308ft. Bit sad 😢 https://www.instagram.com/p/CZtmutVhWBm/

The highest unsealed I've ridden is Mt Skene at 1621m / 5318ft. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3jqYmeRovw/

Both of these are closed due to snow in the winter.

It would be great to tour some 'real' mountains

A friend of mine rode up in the Himalayas for three weeks. He went on his own, no organised trips and hired a Royal Enfield Bullet locally. He said the roads were good and the only thing was the asthmatic carburettor 350cc single was slow at low levels, so the thin air at altitude really took its toll on performance.

also heat, the rear rim is always hotter than the front after riding thus the dust that gets kicked up sticks better to the rear rim because of the heat of it.

I live near the original Sierra Nevada.
The tarmac goes up to 2250 metres, to a small car park. From there it is gravel and authorised motorised vehicles only. The ´track´ can be cycled up to 3398 metres. Did so 2019. Quite an experience as above said 2250 the air gets notably thinner when pushing pedals.
ICE suffer the same but (most) modern electronics adapt.

Have the same rear wheel dust only as there are may local hard pack tracks. I blow it off with the pressure washer at the local gas station. 1€ worth of spray time, wipe with the chamois and presto.

So not just a Vespa thing then.

I use a shop blower and also in the engine bay as that becomes horrific

Also my rear rim is very extensively stone chipped
