i managed to break the tip of the dipstick - gts 300 2024 - crap material - what should I do? also, I can't get the knob back into its threads to the needle. not pressed or damaged, just unscrewed before, first check on the oil after 50 km. hopelessly boring.

This is a common problem, the plastic tip will be removed when you next have an oil change. New ones can be bought off ebay or your local scooter dealer.

If you cant refit the dipstick cap then dont drive the scooter. Ask someone who knows engines to give you a helping hand. If you ride with the dipstick out , oil can be lost and get on your rear tyre.

OK, you broke off the tip of the dipstick.

Not uncommon on a GTS, it seems, not clear to me why since my BV 300 has exactly the same dipstick and I never had any problem with it at all.

It may be the broken off part will show up at your next oil change, but also maybe not. If not then do not worry too much about it. In some cases the part never turns up but did not lead to a problem.

There are stronger metal after market dipsticks available.

The rest of your post is not clear to me. Can you explain what you mean by: "also, I can't get the knob back into its threads to the needle"?

Hello and thanks for your answers. what I don't understand is why I can't put the needle back. the threads look good and I just screwed straight up and took out, dried the stick and then when it went back down the stick broke half way which meant I never made contact with the threads on the top. very frustrating. however, in any case, I must have a new knitting needle and then maybe it will fit, with emphasis on maybe. the threads in the block cannot be damaged because the stick is made of plastic.

I think we have a real problem with Google translate here^^^^^. This may mean the dipstick snapped at the top eg cap end hence stopping the threads engaging .

In that case just pull it out.

The new Hpe engines are fiddly to unscrew and screw back in. Just jiggle the dipstick around, it sometimes catches on the internal parts of the engine and stops the stick going in. Just keep lifting it out and gently probing it, suddenly the dipstick will drop down to the threads and you can screw it back in clockwise.

See 5 mins 20 secs into this video

?si=NODtrNkwVB3YUxN2

If you continue to struggle post some photos showing the problem.

Good luck and welcome to MV

Does anyone in the US sell these oil dip sticks? They're over $40 shipped if ordered overseas. Thanks!

I did the same thing. Ordered a new one from Scooter west and went in fine, I spoke with their mechanics and they advised to just leave the broken tip in there as it would likely not cause any issues, so far so good several hundred miles later. the new dipstick screwed in just fine.

I hated struggling with that damn dipstick, so I installed a sight glass oil pan I bought from Scooter West in San Diego.

I had Scooterwest install the site glass oil pan at the 600 mile service. Excellent addition to the scoot. That and heated grips.
It's a bit chilly coming home from work.

Flybynight -

I bought the knitting needle that you linked, including customs to Sweden, it was approx. 60 euros in total. Haven't tried it yet as I have it in a warm garage and I'm going down this weekend to try it, however I realized now - today - that I have a GTS 300 HPE Super !!!! are the conditions the same as for GTS alone? or do I have to send for a new knitting needle? silly, but I just thought it was called GTS 300.

It makes no difference whether GTS/GTS Super/GTS SuperSport or GTS SuperTech only the year of manufacture must match (300 HPE from 2019-2024).

It's annoying when you order things from outside the EU and are then surprised that you have to pay customs duties. What is even worse, however, is that if you had ordered from Aliexpress or Temu from China, it would probably have passed customs without any problems... 🤮
There are enough dealers for scooter stuff within the EU. Think of it as a expensive learning experience…

must agree was very handy to get stuff from the UK before, but since the brexit prices with customs and shipping have gone up, but not many companies make these things so choices are limited.

Don't support the Chinese trash machine!
Use a European supplier (if you are located in Europe):

SIP and Scooter Center are located in Germany. There are dozens of other suppliers of scooter parts in the EU.

Suppose it depends on what they think in the UK, only time will tell, but getting worse in the EU with all the companies closing, so best as GermanGTS says try to support EU products or UK, and lets not forget the USA.

I have had only one experience with SIP and it was not a good one. Bought a replacement speedo for a 2006 GTS250, and the rpm function not working right. Set it up per the manual and in spite of 5 emails to them over 2 months, I have had no response from them on this issue.

Not meaning to hijack thread but just wanted to relay my experience in case you use SIP

I am sorry that you had a bad experience. I have ordered several times from SIP and Scooter Center and have nothing negative to report.

It's best to support your local dealer anyway.

I'd advise every 300 owner to install that sight glass oil pan, however they do it (DIY or dealer).
The only time I have to deal with that #@^&%^ dipstick now is when I change the oil. (Or top ups which hasn't happened yet, doesn't seem to use any oil despite what Robot said)
I can check my oil level now in about 3 seconds by bending down and looking at the oil pan.
Don't know why it's such a PITA to get back in but it is what it is.
You have to be very gentle with it or it gets stuck or breaks.
It's all about getting just the right angle and placement and then it drops right in.

Not blowing anybodies trumpet but I have bought a few things from Sip, no problems at all, I once ordered the wrong part and they let me send it back no problem, I can only but imagine your emails ended up in Spam, and possibly nobody seen it, you can even call them in English if that helps, it helped me as my German was not the best then.

This should be standard on the GTS, and other Vespa as well, but it's not.

So be it.

But, it's not particularly expensive ($150 USD?) and even an all-thumbs mechanical buffoon such as myself had no problems fitting it to the scooter. Installation is very straightforward.

I bought mine from Scooterwest.

With them dropping prices, you could probably get it installed for free.

Quick comment: the oil leaking happened on early US GTS HPE's, I think it was someone here said it had to do with the shape of the rings. It was corrected for the GTE HPE 2, mine, like yours, does not use oil.
