Hello all, just picked up a 65' VBB that has been sitting for 20 years. I plan on leaving it pretty stock just really want to get it back running. So far I have cleaned the tank and started disassembling the engine. Hopefully I will just need to replace the seals (the bearings feel good).

Besides new seals, gaskets, clutch, carb rebuild; what else will need to be replaced in the engine? Any other components easy to replace when the engine is split?

Thanks,
Cameron

Nice find !

Inspect the gears/cruciform...
I would take apart the clutch plates to soak them into oil before putting them back (if they are ok).

How are the internals ? Cylinder, piston, crank... ? Any pics ?

I found 2 oil soaked mice in the frame tunnel of my Stella. They had chewed through the oil line and made a last meal of 2t.

I found a mouse inside an old car generator, I guess he charged right into it.

Great find!!!

Sounds like you are well on your way. As noted seal and rubber bits... and Cables. Oh and check the wire harness while the engine is out.

I love how both you and OP found such similar bikes in many ways at the same time so I can watch parallel progress on essentially the same bikes, but one including rodents.

schroncc can watch what you do and learn from your experience and you have a happy onlooker. Win/win!

Thanks Everyone, I'm super excited about this but also really nervous!

If I do decide to go with the 177cc cylinder, 20/20 carb, and a SIP road pipe will I need to upgrade the clutch? I was planning on rebuilding the clutch anyways, is there anything I should do to stop it from slipping?

Will the points and timing need adjustment as well?

I'm more interested in plug and play. Not looking for a monster but a little more than stock.
