Alright, so currently, I'm having an issue with the bike starting then dying. It seems to me its electrical related as when I turn the key on, the rear light and turn signals don't operate, giving me the hint that there's a short or something somewhere.

It just started doing this the other day. Could this be a problem with the ignition switch or rectifier? I plan on converting it to AC, but I still want to keep the turn signals, which require a DC power source, otherwise they'll flicker.

I'd suggest starting a new thread if you want this answered. this is so buried and off topic from the initial post.

and yah, it's a 100 sport, it's probably something electrical.

Good call. This thread will be dead for a while until I order all the parts. Will post an update as soon as I get money to order everything.

The road to any fast Vespa starts with carb problems that are electrical problems 90% of the time, followed by putting together a leak free engine and then maybe setting the timing wrong…on a stock engine.

Not to say these are your issues…just that Vespas can be humbling. Even with lots of experience with other engines. Seems like there's no way to escape taking the Vespa 101 course, even if you have a PhD in motorcycles.

Best of luck and looking forward to your build.

Hi all, thought I'd restart this thread. Picked this up yesterday, 1980 100 Sport modified and cut down to look like a SuperSprint, it has an ItalKast 135cc cylinder kit, Mazzucchelli crank, 27/69 primary, VMC clutch, 4 Speed conversion, 28mm SmartCarb SC2, Taffspeed pipe, and P200E ignition with a lightened flywheel (which I will eventually replace with a SIP Vape).

Will be repainted eventually, and I am wondering if it's possible to run turn signals with an AC ignition, which the Vape will be AC on this one. Also still have the bone stock beige 100 Sport as well that eventually will get modified as well. But I found this one for sale and it was such a good deal, I said why not.

What I might end up doing is eventually moving the cylinder on this one to that one and run a Quattrini M1L-60 GTR on this one, as this one already has frame bracing for more powerful engines.

If anyone can give me advice on running turn signals on an AC ignition if possible, that would be great.

Why doesn't the engine have cylinder cowl?
