Iirc the a,b,c after paired with different thickness gaskets (top or bottom?). Something about tolerances.

It's a completely different head eg the pre-hpe rockers didn't have rollers whereas the hpe do. Wouldn't bother trying.

Different letters have to do with tolerances during machining. Depending on 'quality' it is then paired with a cold start weight of same letter. The purpose is to ensure correct bump height for cold start. The letters have nothing to do with different lobes or anything else. Just making best of sloppy machining quality control.

Thanks guys. I wasnt aware the hpe had roller rockers. I would guess the a/b/c were slightly different bearing journal size. I was asking hoping to use hpe Malossi cam. but roller rocker would require change in cam profile. so no go.

I'll take a look later if dimensions are different between two cams. It actually doesn't matter to cam lobes if they are pushing a roller of flat tappet arm in this instance as the head architecture is similar. What matters is only if the lobe height is different and makes improvement. A quick look suggests they are similar.

Malossi makes a cam for the HPE, and they likely know the HPE has roller rockers.
