I was looking for a vented gearbox oil level plug (with tube).
Was very kindly provided with a link to one which allows for a bit more oil and be nice for the clutch.
The is that I now cannot re-find the link nor the product

Works really well. I did have an extended tube on the clutch cover originally but from time to time it would pump oil out on to the floor through 300mm of tube... not sure how that works tbh! It's probably the same breather you can get from Aliexpress for dirt bike tank venting but having the M7 thread at the bottom saves a lot of mucking around. |

THANKS again!!
The ´blow out´ could happen if the end of the tube is lower than the plug and the hot oil level goes over the highest point of the tube. Next it is simply a gravity fed siphon. Weird scenario though. |

I always find it next to the blinker fluid and muffler oil, on the top back shelf at the Vespa store....

thanks Ray.
Will do asap. Not routing the plastic pipe down though. A bit of foam should suffice. I will be a lot happier with some 100 cc more oil in there. |

I just cut the top off a stock breather and turned it down in the lathe to fit the tubing I had. Didn't cost me anything since I already had it. 😉

Here is the baby-breather from Aliexpres
On my mate's PK cases was somehow was broken breather thread. I decided to put M6 helicoil and this Ali-breather. But it seems that better was to cut M8 thread and order bigger breather.

I used this old style fuel tap I found in a bin. Took off the nut, snipped the filter off and used a little rtv to hold it in the hole.

I want the vent tube up and only up, so the box/housing can hold more oil without risk of syphoning.

I'm interest in how EGIG's breather works? It have no tube but a ball inside. And works with 500(!) ml of oil in smallframe engine...
I have one on the shelf but still not installed. Original breather spit lot of oil after 220 km of highway ride. |

roland87 wrote: I'm interest in how EGIG's breather works? It have no tube but a ball inside. Almost overkill for gear box temp. expansion ´pressure´ as the weight of the ball keeps the opening under its seat closed most of the time. The OEM one is an open hole with a hat against rain/dirt so adding a ball with a good fitting seat is way better. The EGIG valve has a close fitting ball with small relief passage only. It should indeed do a good job for both eventing and keeping oil in. The design fitted with a light spring is a lót better still as this keep it staying put over bumpy surfaces. This makes that the valve is mostly closed and is only pushed open by pressure inside. It will keep oil in side. The free hopping ball design was in the past used on some motorbikes as cheap pcv valve and boy was that an air filter oil fest Yes the EGIG valve is all I would need but Ray8´s for free mod allows easy filling through the vent tube. Today got a piece of clear plastic 10mm (inside diameter) pipe from the farm. Also for free as it was a left over cut off. |

I think I've been having senior moments since my mid 20's; losing parts and tools, thinking I've ordered a part when I haven't and hunting for it. Buying the same part multiple times.
