Often, it's not a matter of lying, it's that the service writer just doesn't know much about the immobilizer system, and is repeating something they heard.
Not everyone who charges money to repair scooters is an expert on all things scooter, or a liar. But a lot of people who want their scooter repaired expect it to cost next to nothing, especially if they didn't pay a lot for the scooter in the first place.

Yeah, I think I was a bit harsh there. Anyhow, if someone is dependent on a mechanic to fix their machine, then you have to pony up the dollars. Mechanics need to eat too.

The tail light looks like a GTS assembly, and if it is, I would like to know how they were able to get it onto the GT.

I think it's actually a GTS (whether 125 or 150) - the UK/EU GT (125 and 200) had a horrible 'duck bill' topbox platform that was completely different from the GTS rack pictured, and a completely different and incompatible taillight assembly.

And taking another look, it has US market side reflectors, a fender crest, and the side strips look like the ones on the GTS, not the GT. This entire thread may have been much ado about nothing.
