Hey folks, semi new here.

I picked up a 2005 Stella from a buddy that wanted it out of his garage. It was dropped several times, he lost the keys, title, etc. I was able to get a new title and installed a new lock set. I rebuilt the carb and got it running last summer but now it's time to make it look pretty.

As expected, the scoot is a grease pit and 90% of the rubber is shot. I've broken down the entire scooter from engine to frame. I need to get the rails off the frame but that's about it. Everything is bagged and tagged. Currently, I'm inventorying what needs to be ordered for replacement but am going to reuse as much as I can.

My goal isn't to make the Stella look like new. I've been riding and working on motorcycles for years and just enjoy the process. I do plan on working out the road rash and eventually paint it once the weather here in NW Chicago warms up. I'll post updates as I go along.

Have you seen the Stella group on Facebook? Scooterworks Chicago is selling prepainted cowls and mudguards for $50 each.

Had some time to wrap up cleaning the engine case. I've got a 15L ultrasonic cleaner so it took three rotations in the cleaner to get to most of each side of the case. The rest was done with brake clean.

Before and after.

Thanks for the lead! Just ordered new primed cowls. I asked Nathan to hold on to them since I'm sorting through what other parts I need to order. I'm about 90 minutes away but it will be well worth the trip. Shipping for everything I need seems to be insane. I hope to get down there in the next couple weeks. I've got a show to go to at Fitzgerald's next Saturday so I might try to swing stopping by at Scooterworks first.

You're welcome. I'm actually in Boston and have nothing to do with Scooterworks. Just saw you were in Chicagoland and had a banged up cowl, so thought you might be interested.

As for other parts, check out Scooter Mercato in Atlanta. Good inventory, good advice, good prices and reasonable shipping. Plus, if they don't have something, they usually can get it for you from SIP in Germany and you only pay local shipping.

This Project Reports forum doesn't see much traffic. For specific inquiries you are better off posting in the Not So Modern forum like you did for your suspension link question. The Stella Facebook group is a pretty good resource too. The quality of the input there has improved tremendously in the last year or so.
