I just rebuilt the front hub on my 1963 VBB.

I see that there's a zerk fitting on the pivot, and another on the brass fitting that holds the spring. And another tiny one on the fitting that holds the speedo cable.

But there's no zerk for feeding grease to the axle itself, which would strike me as the most important thing to be lubricated.

So, how does the front axle stay lubricated? Right now, it has a new-style sealed bearing on the left, and another unsealed bearing, which I packed with grease, on the right. And I greased the shaft itself where the speedo gear connects, and the speedo gear itself.

But shouldn't there be something more? Should the entire interior, before I seal it up, be filled with grease, maybe via the speedo hole??

I'm puzzled. Just strikes me that that axle would want a lot more lubrication than the gob I put on the right bearing while I was rebuilding.

Anybody have any spare wisdom? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

you would remove the axle and service the bearings.
