Got an adjustable clutch lever, this one from mercato:

The stock LML cable has a different lever end and it was too short for this new lever, and on top of that the end was frayed so I ordered a new one from Scooterwest. However it looks like it must be cut to length.

I noticed the engine end of the cable has a tapered tip to easily slide into the sheath, but I am not sure exactly how to cut it to length without the end fraying again. I know of bicycle style cable ends but I would assume those would prevent it from coming back out of the sheath.

Is there a proper way to do it on these?

Get yourself a set of cable cutters. I like the ones below from Park tools. These will cut the cable cleanly, without smashing then snipping like when using dykes or electrical wire cutters. A small cutoff wheel in a dremel works well too.

For the ends, if the cables are standard steel, they can be soldered before cutting to prevent fraying. If stainless, I use the bicycle style crimp on caps. They can be easily removed if you need to pull the cable thru the housing.
