I occasionally consider getting ones of these. Not for the bling, instead for the cooling fins.

You must mean for the bling of the fins, as they'll do eff-all in comparison with the radiators

when riding - sure, I agree.

my pondering stems from once the bike is heat soaked both in the engine bay and the whole front, then when idling or rolling slowishly on 4wd tracks there isn't enough air through the radiators or coolant flow towards the front (due to low rpm) resulting in the coolant temp rising high enough that the fan comes on.

but I don't really think the above pump cover would solve this.

so I just keep pondering

There'll be enough coolant to the radiators, no worries. The thermostat will be wide open, the fan will come on as soon as the threshold is triggered, and the temp will go down again - IF everything is working as it should.

That said, I installed a fan override switch on a couple of my bikes where the system seemed to be struggling. Both eventually needed new head gaskets - and after that all was tickety-boo again.

Same and same.

Have a manual fan switch AND have blown a head gasket (even with the switch).

I'm still all for a electric water pump for the faster circulation and that should amount to increasing the cooling effect
I still have to install the one I purchased so I have nothing to report on that yet, I did however install a 140 degree thermostat which opens earlier than the stock thermostat and does keep the bike some what cooler on the warmer days we have here in orange county California, my fan has never had to kick in on hot days and yes my fan does work (tested).

I wouldn't try and mess with lowering the Eng Temp below what the ECU wants.

One of the reasons is the different metals expand different amounts and it's designed to run in a certain range. eg the cylinder and head are very different metals ...

Bonus: here's TPS(deg) vs EngTemp(C) correction map for a GTS 300 pre-HPE.

I have a carb on my gt200 so it probably doesn't apply on my bike it starts and idles on choke perfect and comes of the choke smoothly then idles nicely and accelerates very smoothly away temp is always spot on it does rise very slightly in wot conditions if I slow down a little it comes down a little so everything appears pretty normal when I ride I'm always listening watching and feeling the ride just in case somethings not right.

Scooter-Centre.com sell the BGM branded ones. Even SIP has a SIP branded one.

PS you don't have to be like that
