Ok so not a study. But, an observation worth noting.

In early 60s large frames, VNB4T in this case. The size of the pinch bolt/cable nipple on your inner selector cable is critical.

Generally you find pinch bolts measuring around 15.5mm when the screw is bottomed out. These however will not clear the top of the selector box on the case casting.

The OG pinch measures around. 13.7 with screw bottomed out.

Figured this was worth putting into the ether.
The more you know.

That's a huge difference, thanks for pointing that out. The pinch bolt head is substantially taller as well.

Thanks for pointing this out!

I ran into this when working on the Allstate. Why won't the dang cover fit? Ohhh, the original pinch bolt was smaller...

I did call Diamond Dave and ask him if he had small ones - negative.

So hold on to those pinch bolts!

Good observation and helpful info. I've always noticed the repop pinch bolts have a taller bolt head, but never gave it much thought.

I did not know that... thanks BN!

One thing you can do to crib a little bit of extra space is to replace the screw with a grub screw. Easier than searching through your stash to find something that may or may not be there...

The two big German shops carry these.
Search using clutch cable nipple.

All repro nipples now come with the tall pinch bolt. Piaggio still sells the short ones (OEM code: 15319800) and SIP rebrands them as SIP Premium...
