You can get a completely new cylinder kit for the price of re-coating and piston.

If you really want to go that route, Langcourt in Weston-super-Mare is a good option.

(And they were just in a Cobweb Garage video, too)

The cost of replating and a new piston will probably exceed the price of a new kit…

Yup. You have to be getting into pretty high-end kits before it makes sense. Especially if you're having to replace any other bits, e.g. the piston.

Last one I got plated was £160 and £95 for a piston. Returned in 6 weeks. Kit had some work done and worth the effort.

That's reasonable. We don't have many shops here and one time I asked around I got quotes for 500€ and upwards. Made sense for an expensive cylinder of a CR, YZ, etc. but not for a Malossi…

I went and looked a couple weeks ago and there are only a few places in the US that do replating, and it's about $400 to get it done. That makes it cheaper than a new Quattrini or Parmakit, but only barely, at least for now.
