…engine wont turn over after ride and quick park.

I drove the bike on a full tank for about 5miles, went to pick up some dry cleaning, which had me park for about 10min.
Not sure, but I don't think this is the battery as it just worked!

Parked on a mild sloping angle.
It's hot, and the water temp light is blinking, but I don't think this is what is causing my engine to fail to turn over?

It sounds like it tries to start, but doesn't quite get to the full turnover. The more I tried, the less it turned over. I've now left it in the slot, taking an uber to an appointment—but would love some input?

No indications there are issues prior to this?

Thank you! I'm super new to the Vespa world and not mechanically inclined (but follow directions well)

This is concerning. How long has it been/how many miles since the scooter had a complete service? Before you try to start it again you should check the coolant level and the oil.

You may need to take the scooter in to a dealer.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first post!

Can you hear the fuel pump whirring when you turn the key?

Be sure to check the coolant level when it has cooled down.

Wait...does the 2018 GTV have a coolant temperature light, or a gauge?

Thanks for that info! I was trying to imagine what a blinking warning light would look like and I realized my scooters have gauges, not lights and I wasn't sure that a GTV was any different.

This.

Focus on this.

Start with checking your coolant level

So it DOES turn over, just won't start?

Turn over = starter motor runs and engages with engine, which turns over.
Starts = engine runs after being turned over by the starter motor.

Hi!
Thanks all for the suggestions.
So I thought it may be the oil, so I checked that.
It was a little low, so I filled that up.
I THINK this may be the spark plug?
I'm going to photo what I see.

It's definitely the coolant. I need to fill it. I'm going to try this and will get back to y'all.

Is that pink tinges in your photo? That's a typical coolant colour. Might have been leaking...

I'm guessing maybe not since it says right there on the front not to.

Worked when it was cold. How new is the battery and do you keep it on a trickle charger if not riding?

Motor gets tight and has more compression when hot. These have a decompression mechanism for starting but it's centrifugal and won't work if the motor won't turn over. Weak battery could be the cause.

my bet is the battery.

was just enough to initially crank but still low , rode the scooter but not enough running time to put any real charge back into the battery, now you have a slightly under voltage battery and it doesn't have the umpfh to start it.

how old is the battery? have you ever had it load tested?
is it the proper sized battery?

I don't know what that is, but will look into getting one.
I've not changed out the battery, and the former owner didn't really ride it much. I don't know if he ever changed it out, but will be doing that now.

Any additional advice on accessories like this would be welcomed!

Get the charger first you need it anyway and might save you the price of a battery.

This is a good one for old-school lead-acid batteries:

well now that the op post they don't know the age of the battery and they never changed it or the original owner and we know its a 2018 scooter ,

change the battery

you might fake it for a start or 2 with a charger but it will leave you stranded sooner than later and then your going to be mad and still have to change the battery anyway

Guys, the battery is the last thing worth discussing (which does not mean that the topic does not need to be solved).

More importantly, was there a loss of coolant and if so, why and how much needed to be topped up? What about the pink spots that steelbytes discovered in the photo?
Did the engine temperature indicator light up while driving before the vehicle was switched off? Why did the vehicle not start again? Does it start again after it has cooled down?

Thank you!
I will likely need to take it in for a full inspection…I am also concerned that there could be a coolant leak.
I do think that the battery is old I will charge it, and take it over to a mechanic. I know to replace it.
The one thing I do know is that the Vespa, although purchased in 2018, was written only 1800 miles. It was upgraded, and meticulously taken care of, stored in garage.

It is now just over 2k miles on it.
I believe it's the age of the battery, but just in case, I will ensure a full checkup is done.
Good to know we can keep a trickle charger on during cold months.
I'm learning, so any advice is welcomed.
