Its not the size of the motorcycle, its your confidence in handling it. If you do not feel both comfortable and confident handling the bike then its not the bike for you.
A bigger bike is more challenging to handle but can be done if you are willing to put in the dedication and learning needed to be confident handling it.
Having a lowered bike or a bike where both feet can touch the ground does give confidence, especially to newer riders. As your skills grow and with built up practice and learning you can eventually safely handle larger bikes.
At first my Mp3 was too big for me, I learned and developed techniques to mitigate the issue. Things like when stopping I would let inertia slide me forwards in the seat enough that I could put my feet down by taking advantage of it being a "step through" scooter. Other techniques such as learning how to use leg muscles and body weight to push it around on slopes. How to pick it up when it fell over, etc. Yes it was bigger than I was used to, but over time and gradual learning I didn't need a lowering kit.
Its all just a question of how much time are you going to put into learning.
Case in point, all the women riders on huge ADV bikes. They can do this by learning, practice drills, and building capability over time.
