Hi all,

I've owned my Vespa Sprint 2020 ABS iGet for about 5 years now. I have a couple of questions, hope that I could seek some answers from the experts here.

1. Recently replaced my ABS sensor at an authorised dealer and now the bike has intermittent braking, it feels like the ABS is engaging itself when I go beyond 60 km/h. How do I calibrate the ABS Sensor?

2. I've thought of bypassing my ABS because I don't see the need of having it at all because I barely go beyond 90 km/h on my baby. My mechanic told me that I still have to fix my ABS sensor and ensure a working ABS module before they can conduct a bypass. Is this true?

3. Do I need a functional ABS module and sensor to bypass?

Firstly I'd suggest trying to resolve your problem instead of getting rid of the ABS

But if you insist ...

I haven't checked the sprint/prima but I would guess you would run into the same problems as ripping the abs out of a gts:

the speedo gets its speed signal from the abs controller. (and so does the ecu for implementing the speed limiter)

so to keep a functioning speedo you'd have to keep the controller and run a hose straight from the caliper to the master cylinder. would also have to deal with the in and out of the abs controller - not sure that simply plugging / blocking them off would be adequate ...

unless of course you can hack the software of the abs controller or change it's config

Just a WAG here, but what about cutting the power to the ABS pump?

as I said, that'll kill the speedo.

although could be useful to check if it is the cause of the problems

I mean disabling the motor itself. Disconnecting the power to just the motor. Would that also disable the speedo?
My bad, but I'm just not getting it...

the abs unit is a sealed unit with the following electrical connections (taken from the gts wiring diagram, reasonable to assume the prima is the same)

input:
* power
* wheel sensors
* key switch signal
output:
* speed -> speedo
* light on dash
input/output:
* can line
* k line

So cutting power to it with the aim of stopping it's pumps would kill the speedo. Unless you could open the unit and hack the insides, really doubt this is something the local mechanic could do.

Just an update..

I decided to do the ABS bypass, which allows my front brakes to work even if my ABS becomes faulty one day.

ABS components still requires a replacement because like one of our brother above said..ABS controls the speedometer. Faulty ABS module/pump means the speedo won't be working. This is something that's programmed in the ecu. I don't think anyone can override this.

Bypassing ABS essentially just helps the front wheel from full-lock brake due to faulty ABS.
