Just wondering if anyone has ridden a Sprint or Primavera up and over the mountain between Temecula and Palm Desert. I'll be going to the area in May. I'm thinking that due to my relative inexperience and the possible chance of overheating, I will probably rent a car instead and go the longer 15/215/60/10 route.

It's doable…you wont win any popularity awards from fellow motorists most likely, quite the contrary in fact. You'll want to have a thick skin in that regard.
My wife and I have done it many times….back in our riding days. We preferred going up through Aguanga and Anza versus coming up from Hemet. We rocked ET-4's for several years before upsizing. Something about the air-cooled simplicity of those smaller engines. You wont overheat in May. Its a nice ride. We'd always be courteous and hang to the lanes edge and wave people by when the situation dictated. Take your time. Oh wait… |

Done it a dozen times on vintage scoots. No problem. If you see a line forming, pull off where it's safe, let everyone pass and continue on.

After reading the above helpful comments and pondering it overnight, I'm leaning towards getting more experience over the next year, getting my first major service done next April, and then doing the ride on my Sprint. Good times!

As OAD said, Scooter Cannonball used this road on our way to Joshua Tree National Park. We had plenty of 150's on that event and I don't recall hearing any issues for riders or their machines.
Don't wait a whole year, you should be just fine. BTW - Riding through Joshua Tree National Park is a great ride as well. Scooter Cannonball was there in mid-June and it was pretty hot. |
