ello to you all,
Hopefully the right place to post
Stu here from Ourimbah, just north of Sydney, Australia.
Retired firefighter, own a 2007 Piaggio BV 250ie. I decided to purchase a Vespa 1977 ? Sprint 150 VLB1T and have a dig at restoration. Bought it a few weeks ago ( it sat on display in sellers lounge room for 12 years) and I feel it could possibly be a Vietnam special but in good nick I think. The previous mods most noticeable to me is ie front disc front end which involved a bloody dodgy master cylinder install, 12 V electrics I'm sure more surprises will come my way.
Doing up the front end atm , new bearings, cables, and of course a new headset etc. Crikey parts are a bit rich.
Hopefully haven't dug a hole too deep. Great to join the site and I look forward to some banter and swapping ideas.
Cheers
Stu

Welcome

Lots of signs do point to that being a bit bodgy, so please be careful. Post pics and ask questions as you go. We will try and help as we can. Again, welcome.

Looks a lot better than most I'd say. If the metal is solid and the nice paint isn't concealing gobs of Bondo, you may be in luck. Junk motors can be replaced or sometimes properly repaired, but a good body gives you a solid foundation regardless of the stuff that's been added to 'improve' it. The glovebox is not original, but useful and looks OK so keep if you like it. But please ditch the seat covers! In fact consider sourcing a bench style seat which are more practical and look better IMO.

Is your headlight round or trapezoid? If the latter I think it may be a DanMotors Vespa from Indonesia rather than the dreaded VN bodge... They can be OK, but no guarantees. Look here to see what my experience w/ a similar DanMotors 150 Super: PT Danmotors Super-T & more

Here's the trap headset. Dos yours look like this?

Two tone scoot looks bodgey as Hell but it's totally solid!

Welcome! Seeing the trap headset and your other post about the fork, everything points to Indonesian origins, not Vietnamese. This can be good or bad depending how much questionable work has been done to it. Personally, I don't know if I would be putting any money or time into it…

Welcome !

Hope you didn't pay too much for your Vespa.

For sure it is a bodge, but could be a savable one, as long as you don't discover some crazy welds into the tunnel and the frame is straight. Otherwise I would not throw any money into it.

Greetings and thanks for the opinions. I got the analcam in the chassis and surprisingly just surface rust and a couple of minor sheet patch ups. Maybe a blast of stinky fish oil will keep things good down there. I discovered the frame / chassis engine pivot holes worn one side ie slightly oval. Would it best to put a step bush maybe to both holes and weld in position to keep things nice and snug. This scooter will not beat me ha ha ha.
In reply to Mr Voodoo it is a trap headset with a scallop above the speedo and piaggio badge above it,raining atm didn't want get wet for a pic, another day.
Can't get rid of the seat covers, I like how it tickles.
Cheers all and thanks again

Hi PC73
I forgot to mention in earlier posts that the chassis number came up as 1977 Sprint Veloce.
Mine doesn't have the Veloce script anywhere that I can see. A further question to all is regarding the front axle .From what I can discern I possibly have a gs160 axle 20mm ( but mine looks longer I think maybe something to do with disc brake) with no worm drive cast or ground in for primary speedo drive see pic. As per pic 2 the speedo cable hole is in the centre of the hub as is the gs160. Is a speedo primary worm drive available to press on as I would like to have an operational speedo. Any other input would greatly appreciated.
Cheers Stu

Hi,

Yeah, for peace of mind ditch that disc tomfoolery and reco the lot back to stock. Stock is sweet as. New rim (Piaggio), tube, and Pirelli Angel front and rear.

I can post a pic of my 1966 Sprint fork if that helps?

Did you run the engine serial number or just the frame? It would be good to confirm exactly what motor is in it before frothing prematurely.

More pics would be nice.

Cheers

Mr PT73
Some pics of your machine would be good. The more I look the more I am surprised at the good condition that some of the components are in . Curious as no engine number stamp, the stamp area looks new. Maybe new crankcase/engine and they forgot to stamp it as they had to get to market in a hurry I feel someone prior spent a bit of time doing it up, in Australia I hope, and possibly got the huff and sold it. Ju

Can you make it road legal without an engine number?

If you post some pics someone here might be able to tell you what engine it is.

I'll PM you fork pics when I get a chance.

Welcome.

My guess is a Dan Motors (use "search" for that) Indo P150S.
That side cover lid is about the right size (so you can fit a 6-pack straight inn).

SubEtherBASS thanks for the info and looked at danmotors etc. I thought that you had nailed it. The P150S seems to have a different front to the cowling, it comes to a rectangle where the tooter is, mine is round. It seems that they started P150s in 78 and mine is 77.
I don't know if danmotors made a previous model, I couldn't find out much. Going to pull out the engine in a few days and see if any more info can be found out. Made a high engine stand so that I can sit and fiddle, bigger is better just don't look at welds too closely. It will be like putting a quail on a bbq rotisserie. By the way has anyone seen mirrors like this, they are well made and a reasonably weighty alloy and came up well with a buff. letters are well formed Any info would be helpful.
Cheers

CentrePoint of weight is the hole under seat.

The P150S was a weird love-child of VBC that met a lady-boy PX.

Thank you,
Money running out atm . I will have to do minor cosmetics until it is replenished. Unfortunately I have been going hard trying to to get every thing sorted out where slow and steady is the credo I should adopt.
It's like a steering wheel hanging out of my fly, it's driving me nuts.
I've tried to do the monthly donation on the site but having difficulty. I believe in supporting a site such as this where people put time and money into its continuation.
If any one can enlighten me on donation process it would be great.
