I am the happy owner of a Spanish Vespa 200 DS (1980)

This model was the first Vespa 200 manufactured under a MotoVespa license.

For those who do not know this Spanish model, the first Spanish P200E built models were listed as P200 DS These models were the same as the pre Italian PX s indicator of 1977, the main mechanical change was the use of Spanish electronics produced by Femsa instead of the recently introduced Ducati electronic parts installed in UK Late spec Rally 200 and the new P200E, Motovespa Madrid decided to be different because the Spanish Vespa standards were normally built using parts from the previous models or the spare parts bin that's why this model has a fork from the Vespa Rally.

The Vespa 200 ds has no turn signals

It is a very fast Vespa model, reaching 110 km/h as standard.

Among the copy-and-paste thermal kits, which is the best option?

i.ve 57 mm stroke and a bgm big box touring exhaust

vespa 200 ds

Polini 210 cc Cylinder Kit (140.0233)?

-MALOSSI 210 ccm cylinder kit SPORT MK2 2021?

PINASCO 213 cc cylinder kit Super Sport

VMC 244 ? Depends on what he is willing to invest

2 of my friends run a 210 Polini (the new version from 2023 with the Meteor piston) on a stock px200 engine with Polini box exhaust, the only mods required are stronger clutch pack and bigger jets, as with any cylinder kit.

They ride almost everyday without problem, it might not be the most powerful but it is reliable.

This is why I also went for that kit, but it is still on the shelves, I will put it on soon

Pinasco is prolly the easiest, and most forgiving, if you are happy with just a bit more than stock. Just bolt it on, set timing, and upjet main to 138 - and walk down (if required). You will go up hills a lot better.

Sounds like your bike goes well (fast) anyway so maybe leave it stock?

Hope this helps.

A 60mm crank is needed to get the most power from this kit, which adds to the budget.
Without a doubt that would be a great combination

That's what I assumed before it was released - that it would be cheaper. Perhaps VMC now see themselves as a major brand and no longer need to undercut the opposition.

The Ranger is only 4% cheaper than the Malossi Sport at SIP.

VMC - 424eur
https://www.10pollici.com/en/homepage/classic-vespa/engine/cylinders/largeframe/cylinderkit-vmc-ranger-213-225cc-vespa-px-200.2.1.26.gp.17539.uw

Malossi - 431eur

The price difference is really small between the Malossi and VMC Ranger, but substantial to VMC 244 with required special crankshaft.

I like the head design more on the VMC, because they use 4 screws in addition to cylinder studs.

He bases his claim on Polini 208 pistons that were prone to fracturing on some degree. On these pistons area around the piston pin was not so well supported against downward forces because of window holes.

I would not worry about VMC Ranger pistons too much unless they are actually found to be unreliable. Design is not comparable to Polini in my opinion.

About the Ranger pistons - I've seen one example that was shipped with a big crack right at the oblique angle in the skirt window. That was enough to give me the heebie-jeebies.

I'd still like to give the Ranger a go, but would rather let the early adopters put it through its paces first.

That said, it's modestly priced and I'd be very interested to hear the OP's impressions of it, if he goes that route. It looks like it's very much built for donpimpon's use case.

Good afternoon,

I declined the Polini/Pinasco kit on a Vespa 200 DS (1980) for a future project.

I opted for something more conservative.

I ground the original cylinder from 66.5 mm to 68 mm at a local workshop, adjusting tolerances.

The piston used is 68 mm with two 1.5 mm rings. The rings are thinner than the original 2.5 mm. It's an Italian piston similar to the Grand Sport.

The air filter is the original with the two drilled holes added.

I installed a BGM Bigbox Touring V2.0 exhaust.

I started the engine at 23° before TDC and the original Dellorto SI/24E carburetor. Spark plug ngk br8 Es/champion n4c

The jets were originally 48/160 and 116/BE3/160.

I've run 180 km with the following jets: low jet 50/160 and high jet 128/BE3/160.

The running-in I'm doing is slow, without opening the throttle much.

Maybe it's misfiring at low speed, and I'm trying to find a café-au-lait spark plug with the mixture screw open about 2.5 turns.

What would be the correct jets with filter holes, a BGM Bigbox exhaust, and a 68 mm piston?

Thanks
