Hello everyone,

My name is Erik, and I'm new here. I am deaf and I ride a 2023 Piaggio Beverly 400 S (HPE) for delivering food through DoorDash. I purchased it in October 2023, and it currently has 6,200 miles on it. I'm getting ready to do an oil and gear change soon, following the ScooterWest service recommendations, which suggest this maintenance at 7,500 miles (let me know if I am wrong since Piaggo said 6,200?).

I've performed an oil change before using Castrol Power 1 5W-40. My concern is whether using 15w-50 or something will affect my warranty, especially since I'll be riding the bike heavily in the hot weather of Arizona. I haven't asked my Piaggio dealership yet, but I wanted to know your thoughts before I do.

I look forward to riding with all of you here!

You ask my thoughts.

I would stick to the oil Piaggio prescribes.
Make sure the oil has the right viscosity and has the correct specification.

For my BV it says synthetic based oil 5W40 JASO MA or MA2, or API SL, or ACEA A3. For your 400 it could be different.

All 3 are the same spec but from a different standardization organization.
JASO is Japanese spec (Japanese Automotive Standards Organization),
API is American spec ( American Petroleum Institute),
ACEA is European spec (Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobiles, French for the European Automobile Manufacturers Association).

You drive it in a rather hot climate but Piaggio is Italian and for sure used to hot climate.

With that motor, in that climate, 15-50 and much more frequent oil changes should help the engine last longer. Companies don't recommend 5-40 because it's best for the engine, they do it because it's best for regulations. And they increase the length of service intervals to sell more vehicles. I'm not sure what they are doing now, but in the Middle East, Piaggio was specifying 10-40 and Aprilia 15-50 in the same engines that were sold in Europe and the US with 5-40.
Italy may be hot, but it's not the California desert.

Thank you.

Wont using 15w-50 void the warranty if I do not use the piaggio recommended 5w-40?

So 15-40 and halve the change intervals .......and I'd eat my R brake lever if the dealer were ever to discover your improved maintenance practices.
Oil is cheap. Desert-cooked engines are not.
