Hello,
I'm a new member, but an old rider and collector of Vespas etc.
I just wanted to know if this is true, someone told me if you have an older scooter/Moped if it's never been Registered before, that it's not required, unless you get a ticket for it. Anybody have any comments?

There are many states which do not require registration on motor bikes < 50cc.

In California, mopeds require registration with the DMV and a special license plate, but no insurance is needed, according to the California DMV. Moped registration is a one-time process with no annual renewal, and operators must have a motorcycle license (M1 or M2) and be at least 16 years old.

In Ohio - no registration or license is needed to operate a < 50cc moped.

check google for your local and state requirements.

Anything goes if you don't get pulled over. If you're not in compliance with your local laws, it only goes if the cop is dumber than you.

Everything's legal for a price. Get pulled over, give the government some money, suddenly it's like you didn't do it. Bribery is the bomb!

Uh, when you say "moped" do you mean an actual pedal moped, or a scooter? I have owned many pedal mopeds, and still have a couple. In my state (and many other states, actual pedal mopeds are treated diifferently than scooters. In AZ, any scooter is the same as a motorcycle, which legally is the same as a car. But a 50cc pedal moped is completely different. No title, and only a notorized bill of sale is required to register one. The seller does not have to prove they own it.
