Got the engine apart today
Polini barrel and piston are toast.... The crank needs a rebuild I would like to share with the jury evidence of a prolonged oil sucker engine... There is so much "rubbery" glazing that i am not sure what caused that.

Apart from the earlier tussell with the barrel and piston, it came apart quite easily... I need to source replacement toothed shaft and worm gear, but the rest seems in reasonable condition. At least the casings match and are stamped in single digits

That thing I was telling you about arrived today but not had a chance to open it up yet. Will investigate tomorrow. Might have a spare crank if you need one?

question
The gearbox in this doesn't look right to me... snd iny wuest for authentic. Id like someone here to yay or nay its originality Primaries are 20/67 and a 35tooth 4th Every other T5 I have had through my hands had been Primaries 20/68 and 36 tooth 4th gear. Which one is correct for a Spanish model T5? |

What top end are you going to install?
The gearbox setup seems to have been geared towards slightly lengthening it to match the performance of the polini 152. If you revert to the original gearbox setup, it is guaranteed to be painfully short for a Polini; even an original cylinder would likely gain from the current setup. Something to consider. |

No idea with gearbox but I'd ditch that 4th for definite. First on my TX was 58 but no idea if that was standard issue and you only really use it to get rolling so left it alone.

I'm really not liking the SIP2 on my T5. If it doesn't sell it'll get a standard back on or do the 172,JL etc conversion I was planning anyway. Most likely the latter.

It just doesn't seem to have the beef of the standard exhaust, top end is fine but seems lacking elsewhere. This is purely "seat of the pants" feeling. Never been near a dyno in my life.

You mean Sito+ against SIP2 right?
Not a fan of Sito either as then tend to sound like a dried chickpea rattling around inside your exhaust within a couple of hundred miles but they work okay. I would never, ever fit 1 unless you were completely out of options. Says he with 2 OE Piaggio sat in garage. You want an honest answer, fit the proper exhaust. |

Make that decision aboit not using a polini barrel superceded.
I just won this on Ebay for less than £20 delivered. A pair of new rings and a quick hone and it should be good as new. Well happy!
Deal of the day

Looking great!
I hadn't checked out this thread in a month of Sundays. I'm normally not a fan of the black leg shield trim, but it looks so good with this build. Solid! |

Great job!
I think it's a smooth call to revert back to, I wanna say stock. You can always tune something else, more available than a genuine T5. LML made T5 lookalike, with a 150 engine. |

They are made from the finest grade of Unobtanium with a periodic table entry of "F-Me" on the price if one can find one. |
