We talked about this method into some topics but I can see some people are struggling or don't know this recipe.

I've made this - we already had the ingredients in the house - it works fantastic and seems to last a lot longer than evapo-rust.
Thanks for sharing this ColinBelgium!

I'm always looking for good ways to remove rust. I like to sandblast, but my setup is limited by a small compressor. It's not the airflow/cam that's the problem, but water accumulating in the lines.
I usually start with a wire wheel and chemicals to give the sandblaster a head start so by the time I get there, I am only blasting the deepest pits or places that are hard to reach. I've used Ospho and naval jelly a lot. Naval jelly is good for small spots in places you wouldn't want to sandblast, like the interior of a car. Repeated applications and scrubbing with a wire brush will eventually get all the rust out. One thing that works well for removing rust is muriatic acid. It works fast and removes all the rust, but I've read that it will continue to eat at the base metal even after it is washed off or neutralized. If you soak a part in a bucket full, it will rust everything metal in your shop if left long enough. |

I remember this came up a month or so back... I think maybe it was Geek Lion who planned to make a gigantic batch of that stuff and dip a frame?
Waiting for that post to happen eagerly! |

I ordered some citric acid. It's coming tomorrow. I already had the sodium carbonate.
Going to mix up a batch this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

I used that formula on a few things for my Riverside project just to try it out and it was amazing. The inside of the previously nasty gas tank I used it in now looks new.
