Does anyone else experience this?

Toronto is finally getting into Spring weather, so it was time to wake up my scoots from hibernation. I always find the first couple of rides a bit "wiggly" while I relearn the feel of riding. Not in a serious or dangerous way, just more a feeling of surprise at how it became unfamiliar in a few short months.

But in no time, it's back to flying for a new season!

Yep, it happens to me. Going back and forth between my Primavera and my 125 Monkey keeps things interesting too 😊

Around here a typical non-riding winter(ish) season is ~7 months. Sometimes more, seldom less.

I've learned that a brush-up riding course is a good way to get back on the saddle. I used to practise just by myself in the beginning of each season, but it's hard to beat a tutored, closed area practice in re-learning the finesse of riding.

Interestingly, I think that riding feels more unfamiliar after the hibernation period year by year...you'd think that accumulated miles would help, but apparently my body and mind gets slower to (re-)learn

RRider, I agree with you. I am about to turn 78. Aging causes things to happen to our bodies that miles behind us do not seem to compensate for. Fortunately judgement and fear of pain are still with me 😊🛵

Tips for first oldie ride check tyre pressure never go to far from home incase something is not working correctly, then slowly get the scoot up to speed to make sure everything is running well even when at full power. do not forget smartphone with full battery.

I will typically do some parking lot practice in the early season as well.

Find a large parking lot with good pavement and practice slow speed turns and figure 8's. Then practice some emergency braking as well; get some speed up to about 35 mph and practice stopping quickly. I use the parking space lines to help gauge my stopping distance as well as define my turning radius on my slow speed turning drills.

I do this 2-3 times for about 30 minutes each time early in the season to help sharpen my skills.
