Well, I don't know what we were thinking, but somehow these two new additions ended up in our lives and my mornings/days have never been the same.

OK, that isn't totally true, I know how they ended up in our lives. I swore I never wanted a young puppy again, yet here we are.

I look forward to the time of fully potty trained young dogs.

That said, they are a hoot to watch, super affectionate, and while having two makes some aspects harder, together some aspects are easier.

First time with small dogs. For information, they are parti Yorkies, brother and sister.

Anyone have some puppy/dog photos and stories?

Looks like they landed in high cotton. Good on ya!

Picture of our dog Squirrel, a rescue… Just finished her last radiation treatment. Poor Kidd has a brain tumor. Hoping the radiation will help extend her a good quality of life for up to maybe a year. Fingers crossed..
Going home with post radiation treatment presents from her care team.

They did too, just like yours. Hope and pray the treatment works.

Our last dog, a fantastic American Bulldog and who we had for 9 plus years, passed back in Nov. Her body stopped making red blood cells.

Oh, don't get me going on dogs. I will immediately launch a flurry of a thousand pics of Isabelle. Short story is she will be 17 this summer. I found her July 6th 2010 ... vet figured she was about two at the time. We've had her ever since.

She is a doddering little old lady now. She has very few teeth left, is starting to have some joint issues and some dementia. We carry her up and down the stairs when she can't make it herself. She has been an absolute gem of a dog, though.

My wife thinks she wants a dog. She's not picky so it'll be a rescue. I've told her so many times to test the waters with foster care. Wife is retired, we have a fenced in backyard and our cats are pretty easy going. I don't mind helping with dog poo control or dog walks.

Wife is afraid she'll "Fall in love with the foster and not be able to see it get adopted.", if that's the case WE adopt it. Fostering helps ease stress on a animal and helps gage temperament much better than being in a shelter.

Oh, and dig the dog's pictured so far!

Fostering is hard work and hard on the heart, but we have done it and recommended to anybody thinking about getting a dog. We also adopted a dog we were just going to "foster".

Yeah, we are similar regarding fostering, agree with the comments.

We went 7 months between our last "daughter" American Bulldog passing and getting new "kids". We were looking at adopting until my wife saw these two.

Someone, a big dog person of course, sent me this today:

All the dogs we have had in the past 20 years have been rescues.
Wetnose is a non-euthanasian facility and they have plenty of dogs that need walking. Volunteers come by to walk the dogs in the area to give them some human contact and exercise. Is there not a facility in your area with such a program where she can volunteer?

Somewhere there is a mutt too cute for words that will just speak to your soul.
Take that one home with you.

I know, right?

The dog we recently lost was our best dog in the world of all we have had. She was just something special and being military living on military installations, she was also the best known and very popular.

May she rest in peace and I hope to see her again.

We had a cockapoo for 14 years, sadly we lost her over 2 years ago.

Wifey want to wait til next year, but then get 2. I'm definitely in for 1, but hesitant about getting 2. We shall see, but ultimately the wife will get what she wants.

Yes, unfortunately they live shorter lives than us.

We waited almost 6 months as my requirement for my wife was to wait until she retired from the Army and since that happened, she was ready and I wasn't going to say no. I wasn't thinking two either, but in some ways it is helpful as they are brother and sister and young enough to need playmates. Still harder to look after two for sure plus other expenses.

These two will be less than a third the weight of our last dog so that helps.

Looking at all these photos brought a big grin to my face! We currently have no dogs, but our last one was a Cocker Spaniel that lived 18 years. Dementia finally got her a few years ago. She's buried in our orchard near a holly bush.

Henry, our 3 1/2 year old Golden Retriever laying around in the backyard.

He is our fourth Golden, as we started with a pure bred female almost thirty years ago.

Then another pure bred female that was joined by a rescue.

The second pure bred died at 10, the rescue at 14.

Henry is a rescue and is a good, friendly companion.

In the small Oregon town where I live, these two lively chaps were attending a local craft fair, but stopped to great a foolish biped clutching a small camera in his opposable-thumb-equipped-paw.
They say birds of a feather, flock together... but the same seems to be true of canines, especially if two qualifies as a flock!

Awesome photos and stories everyone.

Yesterday these two were 16 weeks old and today they had their first spa treatment including baths and grooming.

Before and after stylist treatment photos below.

A week or so ago, one of their many tug-of-war sessions…

It's been a rough week. Isabelle started acting really weird Monday. By Tuesday morning she was lethargic, almost unable to stand. My wife made an appointment to get her into the vet that afternoon. We were afraid it might be her 'last trip'.

I thought she felt hot and the vet confirmed a fever, dosed her with an antibiotic and actually sent us home after drawing blood for some labs. Tuesday night was a repeat of Monday night. I didn't sleep much either night.

The results of the labs said her liver was the problem and the vet suspects cancer, so she goes in tomorrow for an ultrasound. On a good note, she slept through the night last night (as did I) and seems more herself today, although still very tired. We're hoping maybe it was just an infection and she'll be able to hang around with us for a while longer, but the reality is we may have to make that hard decision tomorrow.

WOO-HOO! Wife just called! NO CANCER! She's going to pick her up right now so she'll be home when I get there!

We spent the whole evening with her last night, took her for a ride in the car, bought her ice cream ... hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, you know?

I may or may not be crying right now.

There were several years when I took care of my daughter's two rescue greyhounds during the day. I would take them for walks and was always approached by people curious about them. "Are those greyhounds?" "Do they bite?" "Can I pet them?" "How fast do they run?" It was always a pleasant and friendly encounter.

When I took walks by myself no one would ever come up to me as a man walking alone and initiate a conversation.

(For the record, rescue greyhounds are the friendliest dogs ever and only get aggressive when they feel a threat to themselves or their "pack" - which includes their human companions. They are also the laziest dogs ever, sleeping up to eighteen hours a day like big cats. They are quite happy to be retired from racing.)

(When greyhounds who don't know each other get together, they immediately form a pack and thoroughly enjoy hanging out.)

(And, yes, they are still very fast - up to 40 miles per hour in a sprint - but only run when startled. Because of the way they were treated at the racetracks, loud noises terrify them and they will run until exhausted and lost, which is why they need to kept on leashes unless at enclosed dog parks.)

This is Pip, our Italian Greyhound that I sold my LX 150 to pay for. He is 8 years old now. IG's are unique. He doesn't bark or shed and sleeps every chance he gets. Strictly an indoor dog and leashed only for outdoor potty breaks. In lieu of that, piddle pads in case of rain, snow, or not getting him outside soon enough.
