1970 Super 150

Any suggestions on what to connect the cable to the speed or where to get the hardware?

It did not fall the neck hole.

Your nut is most likely down the fork hole. remove front brake cable, drop the fork, and turn the fork upside down-it will most likely come out.

If that is not the case, which is hard to believe, you will need to buy a new cable. or maybe get lucky to see if you someone can send you just the threaded piece.

option 2. Drain the fuel tank completely and flip the scooter upside down (onto something very soft). Shooting a blast of air might help dislodge the missing nut from the bottom of the fork…might.

I've used a piece of baler wire to push the nut back up top

What Grumpnut said. It's a PITA but with patience the nut can be fished or pushed back up. Worst case, get a new speedo cable.

Route a fishing line through the fork tube and out of the same hole as the speedometer. Tie a loop around the cable outer and pull the line back up. If your nut is there, this will bring it up.

Or, perhaps a long telescoping magnet tool (or a small magnet on a string or coat hanger wire) may pick it up and gently bring it up.

I would buy a new cable. Once it arrives take the cable out of the sleeve then feed the cable from the front wheel up through the fork to the headset. Then feed the sleeve from the headset down over the cable to feed the sleeve through the fork. This locates it quickly. Then fix it to the gear in the fork and finally screw it into the speedo.

I have just done this and was pleased how well it went but still don't have a working speedo so more investigation required.

Also make sure you get the right cable size 2.7mm cable for bikes with a larger hole.
