Hello (new user here), long story short, my parents own an LX 125 Vespa that they purchased in 2008, they used it up until about 2012 and since then it has spent its life sitting in garages or outside with a cover for more than a decade.

I'm currently trying to get it up and going again but worried about a 2 things - an electrical cable and the (broken off) fuel line (cream coloured hose) leading to what I think is maybe a fuel pump or roll-over valve. I couldn't find any canister so I'm pretty sure the Vespa was sold without or partially without the EVAP system. I was just wondering what this component is.

The fuel hose/line leads from the fuel tank to this component I'm unsure of, and then a (broken off) blue hose leads from the mystery component to the carburetor. All is pictured below.

If anyone's got any idea what the cable is and what the component is, it would be super helpful, thanks!

Also, just wondering how I should go about cleaning the engine, is it safe for me to give it a rinse with water and soap (after covering the broken hoses with tape)?
I'm not sure what this cable is for and whether something is meant to plug into it (I haven't been able to find anything that can be plugged into it)

Here is the cable circled (it's a very dirty engine, I know :()

Here is the component that I'm unsure about, the cream coloured hose comes from the fuel tank, the blue coloured hose leads to the carburetor. The component is on the left side of the Vespa.

the electrical connection you are asking about is the autochoke.

the canister with the two fuel lines is the fuel pump

replace the two fuel hoses, then wash the bike/engine with a garden hose. Let it sit to dry for a few hours (likely water in the sparkplug cap).

I hope you get this running! Given you know the full history, it seems it shouldn't take much. A wash would be a good start!

Great, thanks for the reply. I also had just one more question about what this piece is that was found in underneath the Vespa when I moved it. It's pictured below:

For sure! Can't wait until she's working again. I don't know all that much about motorcycle/scooter engines, so it's also a great excuse to learn about it.

Looks like a filter of sorts. Perhaps it went in the vacuum circuit between the carburetor and the fuel tap?

tank overflow/vent valve.

hose from tank near the filler neck -> that valve -> hose that hangs down near the bottom of the bike
