SEARCH should provide answers for this question, as it's been asked before.
Anyway... Always full-face as I want to still have my full face after i fall off. Jeans = zero protection! Then they melt into what was left of your leg! Gloves are essential, as that's the FIRST thing you put down on the tarmac to try to stop yourself hitting it! - a few years back I was at an accident where a young rider had fallen off at an intersection on a VERY HOT day.. he had no gloves & had de-gloved a few fingers. AI asked why he wasn't wearing gloves, pants & jacket... he said "ohh, it's hot". I replied "well, I'm pretty sure that just coz the tarmac is hot doesn't mean it's any softer, idiot!".... no sympathy from me! Helmet, besides being a legal requirement, it sure saves dying! If I'm on a long/hard ride, then generally kevlar cargos over riding pants , kidney belt, motoX vest & even 1-piece leathers.... even if it's 40+c. I KNOW most times I have fallen off have been at low speed & the biggest injuries have been then, but that day i come off at high speed is what I prepare for, as it's gonna happen some day.

This morning walked down the hill homeward bound with two bags of groceries. Tripped, tumbled, three overheads and splát. Traffic stopped, drivers jumped out to assist. Quite No damage; will turn colours over the next few days. Could have been nasty; not wearing a crash helmet shopping though Ah and what about back protector/airbag vest? |

August last year it was hhhhhót here and one afternoon, having come back from a sweltering ride, taken a shower, put my scooter inside which had cooled off a bit in front of the house. Closing the door having pushed it in charming stood I´d forgotten to put something on

Further more both the chance and the seriousness of consequences vary very widely with what/how/where/when and not importantly the whý! Riding a scoot for commuting in the greater London area is different from riding for fun on Mallorca. Remember Hepburn and Peck in Roman Holliday? Now add ´responsible´ protective gear and full face crash helmets |

We go out on the ATBs a lót. Sheer endless network of gravel roads all over the mountains here and beyond.
Yesterday we went into a valley closed off two decades ago to enjoy nature and see how far we could go. That was quite far and some 10 kms into the ravine charming was filming feral horses and ... flew over the front wheel onto the rocks. What that has to do with this thread? Well, lycra shorts, short sleeved lycra shirt, lycra gloves, polysterene head gear. 20-25 km/h onto the rocks lining the course gravel camino. Again;and the tread? Well, it is great un-fun to pick gravel from cuts, wash that and the bruises in the brook a bit further down. Yet it is the choice between fun, the experience and the consequences of a mishap; a risk analysis. Thát my dear Watson(s) is the crux. Ihave already referred to Hepburn and Peck in Rome and for me that sums it up. For me riding the NSM or my Nimbus is about the experience. If it were about transport I´d use a cheap second hand hatchback or minivan. The experience is just about culled by donning full safety gear. Add protective clothing, homologated gloves and full faced helmets to Holliday in Rome... And charming? She is a tough as nails; was cycling champion in her home country. Although damage all over, nothing serious and we both can enjoy me spoiling her with car and attention. We´ll be out on an even more challenging trip next week. |

A combi with loud pipes or more specifically sound.
When on the motorbike scoot, some bicycle use, no discussion about crash helmets adding some skull protection in case of a fall/collision. Also obvious is that the more sturdy, envolving the helmet, the more protection. Less obvious is that the latter also has contraproductive effects. More helmet = you perceive less; hear less, see less even sméll less. When in the saddle I am very aware of being the more vulnerable participant and attach great value to preipheral awareness. As such I am a great advocate of horses for courses; agaínst too much head encasing. More awarness increases my chances of avoíding an accident: Reducing the probablity of a mishap in the risk formula. The other factor being the seriousness of the consquences being mainly speedmeans I dó have and sometimes don a full face when going on a fast motorcycle. On the NSM scoot and Nimbus I´d lóve to use the cycling helmet. Unfortunately not allowed For me, the extra héaring, the extra saftey of that peripheral awaress outweighs that risk on a fine. |
