Now that we're going, in the Northern Hemisphere, into fire season, has anyone had experience with spark arrestors? I don't go off-roading, but I do occasionally go onto pasture, meadow, and gravel roads where I can't entirely avoid high vegetation.
It's also my understanding that some National Parks, Forests, etc require spark arrestors (or turbo-chargers Laughing emoticon ) even when sticking to paved roads, campgrounds, etc. It's something like a $700 fine for not having being equipped.
Thoughts? Experiences? Recommendations?

That requirement is for OHV only, as far as I can tell.

Research, research...

According to the USDA:
"The exception for passenger and transportation vehicles is granted because they generally are not driven in close proximity to flammable vegetation."

I life in the PNW, where extreme drought and heat are now becoming a norm due to global warming. I do, on a regular basis, ride in close proximity (sometimes very close) to what will be highly flammable vegetation in late spring, summer, and fall.

I may be legal, but mufflers do not function as spark arresters. Having seen the results of fires, I think I'd prefer erring on the side of caution so I was wondering if anyone else has experience and/or advice with spark arresters on their scooters? I'm hoping to find one that I can easily remove for highway driving and install for when I'm going to be in high fire conditions?
Thanks!

When I was on my MP3 I only ever made sparks when hard over far enough the center stand dragged a little. That was only on uphill hairpin turns taken as speed vs just slowing down and reducing lean angle.

The only time I've for sure made sparks was on my Honda CTX leaning way over far enough to drag hard parts. In the case of the CTX it will drag the front foot pegs. In the dry fire season I modify my riding to avoid sparks and just relax so I don't cause a problem.

Point is, unless your tearing around the mountain like a hooligan with a big grin your not likely to make making sparks. The MP3 is just too covered up and with its massive exhaust muffler your not likely to have to worry about sparks or causing a fire.

One can't necessarily see the sparks.

True, but I was on a group rides with the Mp3 and CTX. The guy behind me reported when there where sparks when metal scraped the pavement.
