More accurately PX Elestart.

How reliable are these including concerning the charging of the battery?

How stable and what voltage is the voltage output? This because in my experience a LiFePO holds charge longer and recharges way quicker. The thing with them is that the charging voltage should not exceed 14.3V.

Saludos codiales,

Petrus

The voltage output on a PX isn't particularly stable and does fluctuate. It's quite a "dirty " voltage and the ampage is also not particularly constant. A lot depends upon the revs of the engine at any given time.

Are you considering adding a special lipo charge regulator and battery management system? I Think you will definitely need one as lipo batteries are very picky

You will also need to consider the CCA rating of your battery

LiFePO is not so picky and I would do a simple swap because the battery type is quite a lot better performing than lead-acid.
This includes cca which is one of the strong points.

I am currently running the second LiFePO in my MR2 and have recently fitted on in my 2019 Primavera.
Both have modern electrics though and NSM.... not.

You have done your homework for sure!

Voltage peaks around 14 -15v on my own scooter and can drop below 12v in some instances. Unregulated voltage from the stator peaks around 40v ac

I have some reservations about it myself, but if you are comfortable to do it then I say all power to you sir! Feedback the results as I. Sure we would all love a better battery!!

Thanks on the info on the charge data of yours.
The low charging at lower revs is why the LiFePO4 might be the thing as those charge wáy faster.
The max voltage though

The LiFePO4 for use in motorvehicles come with integrated protection against to high charge voltage/current but ... On my MR2 fitted a digital voltage meter
On the Primavera had the confidence of 8 year no worries experience with that.

Also thinking about replacing the 6V one in my Nimbus.

Wiil keep the forum posted.

Have had the Nimbus battery on a charger but close to 10 years old it was just not holding charge apparently. Refused to start because of no juice in the battery.

Since the original bakelite housings are lóng since obsolete I have two small 6V lead-acid cells in parallel inside an emptied original housing.
Those cells are véry difficult to source so looked at LiFePO4 just in case see above.
The connectors are obviously low amperage only but the Nimbus is pedal start only so that is aok and the twin cells have the same spade connectors.
Just pushed the button:

The LiFePO4 is réal lightweight

Not all that much smaller, a bit higher even, than the old lead/acid and with more capacity.

With the packaging material was an easy fit.

Has voltage, the one and only fuse stayed put, no sparks/smells.

Don´t know how to share videos but the engine starts.

One way of sharing video is to do an upload to YouTube and then share the link

I'm watching this thread with interest to see how long term works out
