I grew up next to a church, the pastor gave 15min services so it was packed. People parked on both sides of a small road, they blocked our driveway, they parked in our driveway. We're taking one last camping trip this coming weekend before we cover up the camper. That's making me very happy.

But there'a a Cabela's right nearby, so we stopped in there. I kid you not, within five minutes they had TWO people trying to sell us something we didn't come in for. The first was at a table right at the flipping entrance that you had to pass while entering where an older gentleman asked if we were members. I said no, so he followed it up with "Would you like to be?" I said "No, we're here for something specific". He continued asking if we'd like to be members and I continued saying no. I finally told him my Dad is a member, to which he responded "Well, you could be, too!"

I wanted to poke the old dude right in the eye, but that would have been out of character. So, I just walked away while he was still talking.

The next guy was toward the back and asked if he could help us. Great, I thought. I told him what we were looking for. He pointed out the direction and then began with, "So, what kind of camping do you like to do?" Thinking he was just being friendly, I told him and it rapidly devolved into a sales pitch for a camping excursion. I finally had to walk away from him as well.

This all took place in under ten minutes. I didn't walk into the store thinking about buying a [thing we can't discuss here], but I was a-thinking of buying one by this point.

So, high pressure sales. That's what did it for me this weekend.

My insurance company is pissing me off today... tried to sort the change from the old bike to the VXL & the model isn't on the system. Checked the V5C & the model isn't listed on there or on the MOT certificate (Just Piaggio Blue or Piaggio-Vespa) so I rang them back & said there had been some confusion over the model & that it was unknown. Now waiting for them to call me back.

Did a comparison search in the meantime & the model isn't listed there either.

Would I be safe in selecting the 'nearest' model, IE the LX or LXV instead of the VXL?

When I bought my Hyundai Santa Cruz four years ago, it was a new model (mine was the first one the dealership had sold). My insurance company didn't have it in their system, so they insured it as a Santa Fe. The local toll authority didn't have it in their system, either, so I had to list it as either a Santa Fe or a Tucson. It took about 6 months for their systems to catch up.

My recommendation would be to either (1) speak with an actual agent and make them do the work, or (2) enter the VIN and let the system figure it out.

I spoke to them on the phone & they only asked for the plate, not the VIN.

A VIN search on Car Owl states model is unknown. Waiting for insurers to call me back...

Your VXL is a Vietnamese or Indian Piaggio model? Not Italian! Probably a grey import - I'm not surprised it's unrecognised by the UK system, that model will never have been homologated.

As the person I am buying it from & the person he bought it from managed to insure it, I think the issue is with Devitt, not the scooter itself. Maybe I'll just have to change insurers.

In a frustrating echo of somebody ripping the dash off my GS 310 ([NSR] What's Pissing you off Today? III (Post 2698845)), I discovered this morning that somebody ripped the control module for the heated grips clean off the handlebars. Thankfully, the wiring is separate so I can start and ride the bike with no issue. Still though: a completely pointless act of vandalism. My guess now is that it's a local tweeker who just looks for things that are "electronic-y" to steal overnight, and my number was up. I can see that they also messed with some other wires, but nothing else seems harmed so far.
I'll have to ask if the security video caught them...and then think if I want to try insurance...
