There are a few bits of technology I had my hands in developing in my career that I now regret. I'm really thankful that I didn't make any contributions to AI.

The most recent is automotive software that allows a company to sell you a high end luxury car with all the bells and whistles (heated seats, heated steering wheel, 360 degree cameras, etc). You enjoy these modern conveniences for the first year of ownership and get hooked. Then you have to start paying a monthly or yearly subscription fee to continue to use the features installed in the car you already paid for. If you don't pay, the features are remotely disabled. It's the same tactic used by drug dealers. Give a free sample to potential addicts to get them hooked so they come back with their wallet open to buy more. I f'ing hate the subscription model.

I wonder if the right to repair would allow one to bypass the block and re enable the services at a later date.

Much like Engine / Vehicle Management Systems can and do get reprogrammed by technology literate the end users.Or would that lead to offences under a computer misuse act, depending on one's own local jurisdictions
