We are two weeks into a three week trip to Italy.

Seven nights in Bologna, five in Verona, now in Conegliano for eight nights, then back to Bologna for a few days before flying home.

Six of us had scooters for three nights in each city, but Sarah and I are staying in Conegliano and kept our almost new Vespa Sprint 125 for an extra three days.

Bologna and Verona are busy places for scooter rentals but Conegliano is surrounded by hills, vineyards with little traffic.

A fine place to ride.

We are in Ravenna looking at mosaics.

Parked on the street was what looked like a brand new vintage Vespa.

One of the (many!) cool things about the color of this seemingly brand-new vintage Vespa (a truly fine oxymoron if there ever was one) is its deep BLUE color - since of course a deep blue is both the color of the Italian National Soccer team - as well as its nickname! Gli Azzurri - aka the Blues - is what hardcore Italian soccer fans call the Italian team in international competitions. They wear blue jerseys of course. (The tradition of the Azzurri was derived from 'Savoy Blue', the color of the Royal House of Savoy, which formerly reigned over the Kingdom of Italy.) It makes one wonder if Italian Vespisti have special names for different colors, or possibly even different Vespas associated with different regions; subjects which budding Vespa linguists and anthropologists ought to look into!
