I find if you park well, your good for a few hours. You do need to drive with strong command.

Driving a scooter in NYC requires a very high skill level. Cars, bicycles, ebikes, and pedestrians all do not obey any traffic laws or reasonable behavior. You have to operate with the idea that everyone is trying to kill you. There are hundreds of accidents per day. The insurance rates are sky-high. And a huge % of drivers have no insurance, no registration, and no driving permit.
I would rather drive a scooter in any city in Europe than in NYC. |

I'm the opposite! I find riding a scooter on NYC surface roads almost magical. Yes, you have to pay attention and expect not to be seen, and yes, you need to know where you're going before you set off, but other car drivers are generally predictable and most of the time, speeds are quite slow. The ability to park on the street by slipping your scooter between other parked cars along the curb is incredible, whether or not you have to pay for it.
What I cannot stand are the reckless car drivers and the completely defiant electric scooter riders who behave erratically and ignore every traffic rule and device. But they are mostly problematic on the surrounding expressways, not the surface streets. Some are delivery drivers - but many are simply joyriders, and I think they're the worst. I simply cannot imagine scootering in Paris or Rome (or even driving a car, for that matter). Florence didn't look great either. Vehicular traffic seemed random and we observed two scooter collisions during our weeklong visits over the past two years. No thank you, I'll take NYC any day! OP, I don't commute by scoot as much now that traffic is back, but you missed me yesterday! Lots of scooters park next to the Irish Hunger Memorial across the street from the Conrad hotel in Battery Park City.

Maybe they belong to whoever posted the sign. They are on private property, I think.
I ride and park in downtown Oakland, California often. It's challenging, but worth it. |

Gotta be careful here in NYC. The city seems to look for any excuse to tow a motorcycle or scooter.

Indeed. I have gotten a slew of camera tickets in my car. Every one was 36 mph in a 25.
And 1 ticket on my motorcycle, on the trip home from buying it! What a memento! |

Moved to Scooter Gallery - as that's where such a succession of Photos is meant to reside.

Not a beater in the show so far. Are you being selective? Around here that's not the story at all.

I haven't seen any yet. I have been snapping pictures of whatever shows up on the streets in Manhattan made by Piaggio.
