Hello everyone,

Im after a bit of help and advice on a spark issue im having with my girlfriends Piaggio fly 150 (carburettor), its also worth mentioning the scooter has no imobiliser.

I recently purchased the scooter and the following day it would not start, after some investigating it appears i am not getting spark - however this isnt entirely the case, if i key the ignition off then on and crank i get one single spark and then nothing - this is very consistant.

using the workshop manual i have carried out all of the reccomened tests all of which have come back within spec.

Measured from the CDI plug:

CDI supply voltage = 12.8v
CDI ground to chassis = 0 Ohms
Pick-up = 123 Ohms
HT coil primary = 0.4 Ohms
HT coil secondary = 3 Kohms
Stator wiring between poles = 0.6 ohm
Stator wiring poles to ground = open circuit

The only parts i have replaced thus far is the ignition coil and the spark plug neither of which have made a difference.

Battery is brand new and fully charged.

As above i am only getting a single spark if i cycle the key off/on and crank.

Thanks!

Check the voltage at the kill switch - these switches commonly fail from exposure to water.

My 2010 Fly 150 definitely had a kill switch near the throttle.

I would check the connection of the HT leads at both ends. Perhaps one end or the other is coming loose.

The other thing to check is your battery connections.

Good Luck!

managed to get the issue resolved

1 - starter motor was on it last legs and cranking very slow which certainly wasnt helping - i pulled it apart and the motor brushes had around 1mm of material left

2 - The pick up air gap was out of spec so i readjusted and managed to get spark back

happy days
