Fitted a modern LiFePO4 to my 1939 Nimbus.

I also have one in my 2019 Primavera and this winter replaced the 8 y.o. one in my MR2 Spyder.

The latest crop comes with integrated electronics to protect against overcharging, short ciruit and a handful things more.

Prices have come down consíderably: The one for the Nimbus is incl. shipping HÁLF what a befitting lead/acid costs.

As they weigh some 10% of lead/acid, are more compact (and do not to be mounted upright), hold charger longer and charge in a fráction of the time, I think them just the ticket for NSM.

I´d say have a look.

I completely agree.

I've been using LiFePO4 batteries in my bikes that have them for a few years. The ones I use have, like yours, a built in circuit breaker, overcurrent/charge protection, and is roughly the size and weight of a paperback book.

Mine are actually intended for use in powered CosPlay costumes and I get them off Amazon for something like $30 each (last time I bought one).

Mine is 6V 6Ah 38.4Wh and 20.33€ incl. shipping.
It is NOT a starting battery though.

For 12V starting battery my go to is Shido. Those too have seriously dropped in price over the past 5 years.

Good point to note. I only run a battery to keep the lights on when the motor is not running and prevent the lights from strobing at idle.

I need to order a battery for an electric start px. Sealed lead acid, only 3 years old and totally dead. Didn't last any longer than the one it replaced either.
What better battery fits straight in and where do I get one?

I still use LA sealed... have started using these for 12V applications.
So far very happy with it. Will fit any P-era large frame.

Three years isn't bad for a battery if the bike isn't run pretty frequently.

Here's a LiFePO4 YB9 battery on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Max-Battery-Lithium-Phosphate/dp/B098997M3C

The price is pretty good at $55 USD and it'll hold charge for months at a stretch. No mention of any battery management or overcharge protection built in, but that's not necessarily disqualifying.

Alternately, I've had consistently bad luck with AGM batteries lasting a year or less and have since sworn off them.

I have a lead acid which I've accidentally run flat several times in my GL right now and it's doing just fine, but it's just keeping voltage up, not earning its keep as a starter battery.

Sits in my 2019 Primavera.
Shido has a wíííde range of sturdy batteries. Had one in my rally car, put it in my MR2 and in total lasted 8 years.
One advantage is they are more resistent to vibrations.

my buddy buys the cheapest lithium battery he can find for his big ktm 990A. He also seems to always have electrical issues and ends up replacing the said battery just about every year. I've only bought brand names for all of my dirtbikes (EarthX, Anti-gravity, Shorai). They usually last me at least 6+ years. Some of the batteries eventually end up in my vintage vespas.

There is a huge difference between e-start and non e-start use.

For the e-start I stick with Shido.
The cranking load is like shorting the battery and even though LiFePO4 is more resilliant than lead/acid, it is like flogging an NSM steeply uphill at 35 C.
For non e-start the battery is more like a capacitor and that is relatively easy life.

I'd be quite interested in something that will replace the stock 6V battery in my Rally. Last time I looked I couldn't find anything in an appropriate size.

Now I have the LiFePO4 fitted and am confident it works, have measured accurately and concluded two in parallel will fit like it was intended to.
Bought that second one

I have a 5-6 year old lifepo4 in my pk. It's ytx4 size. It only shows about 50% rated capacity left on the charger and it has no issues cranking over for extended periods. I didn't even buy it new, it was found in my friends trash because it was getting too old for his 660cc jet ski.

That's a good price. I just replaced the battery in the Stella. That' a better price than the regular lead acid battery I got from Batteries plus.

My (parallel) 6V 12 Ah will total 40.66€ incl. shipping which compares quite favourably in all with the lead/acid offering.

I have installed 4 pcs of lifepo4 32700 batteries in series to get 13,7volt which are equivalent to 6 amps. This has been working well for 1 year.
