What was the actual reason behind the aluminum intake bushing? If the carb has an internal o ring or you use a rubber coupler, I don't see why you'd need that aluminum thing besides it being some type of heat sink? Seems like a crappy solution and make it have multiple opportunities for air leaks.

Probably both a heat sink and to protect the manifold from snapping off where it passes through the hole in the frame.

How so? To make it more rigid or to not let the carb be a large lever on the manifold by having that rubber boot be a type of suspension?
