Modern Vespa

Any advice on how to remove this swing arm plate.

I have been trying for about three hours.

Plenty of release oil, brute strength with attention to the abs ring.

Tried gently tapping the shaft, but wary of hitting it too hard, as it connects to the gearbox.

Scooter West do not make or sell the removal bracket anymore. I have the dimensions, but if anyone is not using theirs any longer, I would be willing to buy.

I live in the UK, but this plate has to come off soon

I've had this exhaust bracket stuck before on one of my scoots I bought.
I got it of with patience, bearing puller, penetrating fluid, heat and some hammer raps.
Took a couple days but came off. I would tighten the bearing puller every couple hours
Be prepared for a loud pop when everything breaks loose

If there any German Vespa forum members here, then I would appreciate it you would buy the swing arm tool.

I would obviously cover all your costs, but it looks like the manufacturer of the tool only ships to Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

I have contacted a machine shop to make the puller for me, but not yet made.

Will be going to a scooter specialist shop tomorrow morning, who understand the issue.

They have been able to get the swing arm plate off on a number of Vespas in the past.


Hopefully the swing arm plate will come off.

Waiting on the puller, but if all else fails, then I will have to get the dremel out and cut through the smallest part of the plate and open a slot out to free the bearing / plate interface.

I've used https://shipgerman.com/ to have scooter parts sent to me in the states from a german supplier in last month and it was a breeze and affordable too. You have the supplier/shop ship them there (to a german address they create for you), and then ShipGerman ships them to you. Check them out for an easy solution.

And it is off.

Shop used a combination of tapping the shaft, but more importantly Wurth freeze spray and Wurth penetrant.

Owner said that the Wurth products have never failed him in doing this job.

Re assembled, new bearing, plenty of anti seize
