Discovered that the smell/smoke I experienced when moving the bike back up to the garage after winter storage seems to be a coolant leak, where a coolant line meets the engine. The drip falls on the exhaust manifold. Not a fast leak, but something I need to tend to ASAP. But none of the parts diagrams I've found seem to identify the part. I'll attach a photo; can anyone tell me the correct part number/name? Much appreciated. /David

The bit with the drip? Cylinder head. I doubt it's your head gasket - though theoretically it could be.

Far more likely to be a hose clamp above the engine. Carb heater hose for example.

Thanks for the speedy reply. The drip is on the head, yes, but it seems to accumulate at revs from a very fine spray coming from the flanged connection between the cylinder and the rigid pipe at the flange with the two bolts.

I'll assume for now that there's some sort of perished gasket in that connection.

I've been unable to identify the name or number of the part in the exploded diagrams, my Haynes manual, or anything online.

Please highlight the part in the photo.

Also the ring angle pipe with the flange connects to the cylinder head not the cylinder. It's the exhaust manifold.

SteelBytes I was referring to this, not the exhaust manifold:

jimc I will look at the connections above again today [I'm open to the idea there could be more than one leak <g>, but I'm reasonable certain this [the as-yet-unnamed part] is where it's coming from.

It looks like an EGR pipe, through which air is sucked into the exhaust for better combustion of unburned gasoline residues in the exhaust gases. In picture number 33. It has nothing to do with the liquid cooler.

If it's coming from where I've arrowed - it's head gasket time.

I still reckon it's coming from above though.

have you read the workshop manual from page 73 to try and identify the parts?
